The Jews have suffered more than many other peoples, masterskrain. Especially one particular group of people here in the States who really like play the race card and have people believe that THEY are the most persecuted in history.
When I was in college, 40 years ago: an Arab student I knew told me then, that was the fear of Arabs about Jewish resettlement.. At that time I thought that was absurd. Today,… I fully understand their concern.
I wouldn’t know what challah bread was, except that in this over 55 community a volunteer gets bread from Publix grocery stores and leaves it at the clubhouse for us to use for free. Sometimes free stuff from Sweetbay, too.
While I am not really anti Semitic nor pro Arabic in any manner, there is something that has always bothered me about the Jewish original take over of Palestine in 1948 and up to now. Were the original Arabic people that owned the land that is now Israel ever actually compensated for theirland? Here in the US even if a city claims imminent domain for some worthy project, the original owners of that land are compensated for their land (even if it is not at current market price, it is at least something), was this ever done by the Jewish people (and in particular their leadership) for the Arabs that were originally displaced?Just wondering, is all!
I can never understand how weak oppressed people fight back again a superior oppressor. it is like the Native Americans, they should have just went to the reservations and not caused so much bloodshed. this is what the Palestinianes, give up and do what the Israelis and Americans want and quit the blood shed. they will only lose in the end anyway.
If memory serves, it was the Brits who originally divvied up the Middle East, but whether they or anybody else (NATO? infant UN?) actually consulted Palestine is anybody’s guess. We are not supposed to ask those questions.
At the time, I do think there was a strong concensus (among First World Countries at least) that the Jews ought rightly to have a country of their own. They had just suffered an actual, organized, deliberate genocide, and people were naturally outraged. Most of them, anyway. Most people are decent at bottom, they just listen to bad influences.
What was said and done at the time is anybody’s guess. Did they think it was going to work out peacefully over the long term? Did they think that there would be some opposition, but that everything would soon settle into amicable cohabitation? Did they just do it, let the chips fall where they may?
Easy to see now that it was a crappy idea, or perhaps a decent one poorly executed. What to do about it is a different matter, it is what it is, and the hole is dug so deep now that both sides need to throw away the shovels and figure out a better way.
I do think it is reasonable to support Israeli independence, but our support has been so biased that it may have done more harm than good. And they way it has all developed and escalated … I have to wonder, in dark moments, whether it’s been deliberate, and if so, to what extent.
Either way, it looks to be a mess which can produce no winners at all.
“OK fine. Quit launching rockets and as the “settlements” grow, move into them and live side by side peacefully.”So you’re saying that if the Palestinians remain peaceful while the Israelis forcibly evict them and knock down their homes to erect new settlements for Israelis, the Palestinians would have the right to purchase a home on the land they used to own? How generous of you.If you promise not to fuss while I mug you, I’ll let you buy your wallet.
While, before WW II some Arabs did sell their land to Jews in Palestine, the majority had their land stolen with U.N. approval. Israel has the most sophisticated weapons in the world, and the U.S. has paid for most of them, while the Palestinian Arabs have obsolete “peashooters” and home made devices.
As the U. S. has demonstrated in Iraq and Afghanistan, Israel is just following our example going back over 200 years, and their history goes back several millennia, if your neighbor, doesn’t want to give you their land, just kill them, and claim you’ve been victimized. From Joshua to “W”, “human nature” has been kept alive.
“I think the Jews were there a hell of a lot longer than the Arabs were.”Are you serious? My father lived on his parent’s farm longer than the next owners. Does that mean I have a right to take it over and throw them out? No.The Jews had a nation where modern Israel is located. The Bible tells us they took the land from those who already inhabited it. They in turn had they land taken from them. That’s literally ancient history and not even unique to the Jews. Those that took the land from the Jews had it taken from them, and so forth through out history. It doesn’t mean the Jews can march in to the West Bank and Gaza today and forcibly evict those who live there today. They’re ensuring the cycle of violence will continue.
@ Troy Young WOW! Racist much?!?! Yeah, I am gonna pull the race card on this one. We’re those so called people: persecuted by their own people, taken from they’re own country, then forced to worked as slaves?? YES!! Then get the US and get a country all set aside and waiting for them and push the people that were already there out, because they were a true friend of Christianty and the US?? NO!! Oh and do these so called “sufferers” get more US Aid money sent to them than the money set aside to feed the hungry here at home in the good old USA??? Yup!!

The “country” of Palestine has never existed and will never exist, study some ancient history before you make such stupid statements.
