“I’ll be the first to tell you, the website launch was rockier than we would have liked,” said Sebelius, a Cincinnati native.—————————————————————-No ship Sherlock! You “only” had 3 years to get ready for the launch.Imagine if a company took 3 years to launch its website?AND it didn’t even work? Heads would roll.BUT this is the big-government ideal pushed onto us by O and the Democrats, so nothing will happen and billions more will be wasted.
The gov’t can’t even fix the computer glitches keeping hundreds of thousands of veterans and their families from getting their benefits. I’m really with Jon Stewart on this one. How can an Administration that is one of the most tech savvy to date fail to make sure the quality controls for the VA and his signature program not be just as good as his election campaigns? Some glitches are to be expected and quickly resolved, but the problems veterans are encountering with their VA benefits AND now the ACA registration is unprofessional and negligent. It’s not a Hindenburg, but it looks like an Exxon Valdez. Unnecessary and very very messy.Respectfully,C.
Given that the HHS and Obama administration wanted by their published calculations about 39,000 people a day to sign up forObamacare by the end of March and that rougly 36,000 total have to date says on its own that Obamacare will be a catastrophic failure. The insurance companies say that they need 3 to 4 young healthy people to sign up for every old or sick / pre-existing condition person who does to offset the high cost of the later. They are now saying that isn’t happening. It is more like the sick and old are signing up pretty much exclusively.I’d say that the young and healthy are making the rational economic choice of just chancing (since the IRS currently has NO mechanism to collect the penality tax from those with no insurance) they won’t have to pay at all and even if they do it will be far less than purchasing a policy would cost them.Obamacare tries to warp and deny economic reality and now that it is forced to live with that reality it is proving a disaster.
If the Republicans want to get rid of Obamacare, all they have to do is come up with a single-payer system similar to what Canada has. I’d vote for that.http://www.counterpunch.org/2013/10/17/grand-theft-health-insurance/
“Are you trying to say this was not Obama’s failure all ready? o instead of blaming bush you want to blame Heritage and Mass.?”No, I said that when you claimed Obamacare was based on “Hillerycare”(sic) you were lying.

“Cubefarmer” started off with a false statement about the Hindenburg, first off, the U.S. refused to sell Germany helium for the dirigibles, and they had to use hydrogen, which fueled the flames, so in a sense, we held onto our helium, and WERE in part to “blame”.
The House Resources Committee is getting bilateral support to screw over the helium program today, and give the resource away to corporate interests. (It’s used for lots of things.) But also, several companies are working on blimps, and dirigibles (rigid airframes) for heavy lifting projects, much cheaper than helicopters, or winged aircraft to operate.
Cruz and the TEA party are the only disasters that rightfully deserve to crash and burn, the sooner the better for America.
“obamacare is NOT romneycare.”I didn’t say it was. I said it was based on it. One difference is that Obamacare has more fiscal responsibility built into it that Romneycare did at its inception."Not enough rich young people are buying into it to fund it. “And THIS is what we get?”While I agree that Obamacare is flawed, it is nonetheless a step forward in getting all Americans covered. They had a hell of a fight to get that much out of the knuckle dragging right wingers. Obama could never have passed a single payer system and he knew it. If Obamacare was defeated, it would be another 2 decades before anything is done. In the meantime, with Obamacare becoming law, the advocates for a single payer system can now shift the fight to health care reform. With patience and perseverance. the US may yet enter the current century in regard to healthcare.
“……But notice that he doesn’t talk about how much it’s costing Canada and that that’s a big problem for Canada right now……”.Ansonia, if you’re trying to prove that Canada’s health care system is imploding, or is somehow inferior, you are wasting your time. Anthony2816 and David provided some excellent statistics on cost and efficacy, which is superior to the U.S. on nearly all metrics. The U.S. system is top notch in training and technology, but on delivery of affordable care to the masses it is at the bottom of developed countries..So far as costs are concerned, what you are hearing is that costs and delivery are under review, which is the case with the best and all healthcare systems in the world. Health care because of complexity and technology has to be constantly reviewed and tweaked. What the Americans will find out is that even though Obamacare will break the rapid rise in the cost curve, costs will continue to be excessively high because the main contributors to excessive costs have not been adequately addressed. So, Obamacare is a good start, but it is not done with reform yet.
“I’d sure like the administration to give us actual figures, so we would know.”
Not to start an argument, but would you believe the figures if they presented them? Past posts have shown a reluctance on your part to trust anything from the administration.
Regarding the understanding of scientific matters by the Tea Party, I wonder if the problem is that people tend to equate them with the scientific illiterate religious righties that infiltrated the Republicans in the 80s? If so, an obvious mistake.

In one aspect the picture is dead on: Obamacare was created by a bunch of over-inflated flaming gas bags….

You have great commentary, cubefarmer. Still, it’s a good ’toon.

There’s a reason we travel in airplanes today and not Zepplins or dirigibles. The later just don’t work much like Obamacare.

Horrors, thousands of people who previously could not get insurance because of pre-existing conditions or affordability will now be treated and live.
