Everything for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind.—Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations
Maybe employers should be saying “I’ll raise your wage when you become more productive…”.I also just love that second sign “People before profits!” What a load of Marxist-like thinking that is! If a company isn’t profitable how does it pay a wage at all? What? Should the owner not make a profit and see his or her investment stagnate? A business owner might as well open a passbook savings account at some bank where they pay .0015% on the principle deposited.Businesses should be able to make a profit and if that businesses workers are very productive then the owner can reward them with higher wages for more profitability.Yes, there are greedy business owners. There are also greedy workers. Look no further than unions to see that….
Neocon: Read a detailed history of George Pullman and the Pullman Railway Car Company sometime.Short version: George Pullman did what the Left wanted. He provided his workers a decent wage and even built model towns with all the amenities for his workers to live in. But he also expected them, like a severe HOA might, to abide by a strict set of rules living there.Over time workers who saved money and managed their lives moved out and got their own homes they owned and such. This bred resentment among the less furgal and intelligent workers. It led to the first general strike in US history and that strike was brutally put down by the US government using the US Army..That “Living wage” crap doesn’t work. It is Leftist nonsense.
Only read out of context excerpts of stories, and repeat them, ignoring the REAL “details”, and you’re a good “pat on the head”, dittohead, that loves Rush, and vice-versa.
^The universe is expanding, but the market for products is NOT infinite. NEW products ARE a way to keep business going, and a “living wage” is simply that which provides food, shelter, and a few “amenities” as well. The “minimum wage” in some areas DOES provide that, but it doesn’t in many others. That’s why that minimum should, rightfully, be set REGIONALLY, with only an interstate commerce clause federal “guidance” to assure that the states DO set those regional needs. BTW, even within states, that may vary considerably by Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas, and from cities to rural economies.
@EnokiLike that noted Leftest Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt? The Republican who was the 26th President of the United States who coined the phrase “living wage”?

Pullman cut wages while not adjusting the rents for the houses in his town. That is what started the strike.

“I agree. Keep them in poverty and they won’t start getting “ideas.”
You got that right. Turning the education system into a propaganda mill has served the oligarchy well.
We are altogether too close to ‘slavery is freedom’ for complacency.
