Panel 2 is the most “classic” Tracy profile I’ve seen so far!

Sure enough, Lizz was about to call Dick Tracy (call Dick Tracy) in yesterday’s strip. I had forgotten that Sam actually foreshadowed (accidentally) that one of Flattop’s family might be involved. I agree with cpalmeresq that we’re really into classic Dick Tracy territory all the way. I couldn’t love it more!

By the way, the angles of the arms in the first two panels here look just fine to me, but the chief’s arm on Saturday (I think) looked anatomically impossible because it was sticking straight out and it seemed like an elbow should have been visible in that unlikely position. It’s amazing what little subtle things can make a difference.

Good morning all!Dick Tracy must be hard of hearing, at his age…By the way, I never was satisfied by Flattop JR story. When he recognized Lizz he should have escaped right away, never bothering to discuss with Skinny, let alone killing her. An what of that " ghost" thing? A bigger evasion from realism than the Moon period, imho.

……wish they would bring back Flattop himself….there’s gotta be a way, lol. Should take a poll and see how many of you think Abner Kadaver’s really dead while we’re at it. You’d think so, since if they hadn’t located his body in the concrete they’d be looking for him instead of this, but still….hope he made it out and is planning future fun, lol.

I keep thinking about Lizz’s comment about wanting to see that car in action. It reminds me of being careful what you wish for. (And yeah, Team Tracy rockin’ the old Batmobile is awesome.)

You are so right !!! If Joe Jitsu were here this case would be wrapped up, Chop ! Chop !cpalmeresq’s comment was that the drawing of Tracy in panel two is very classic. I agree, it is! Joe Jitsu and the other silly characters from that animated cartoon are not classic at all. I watched that cartoon when I was a kid, because I enjoyed everything related to Dick Tracy, but it really had nothing to do with the actual comic strip. It was just TV cartoon silliness, for the most part. Characters would drop off a cliff, shout out “hold everything”, and stop falling in midair until they could call Tracy on the 2-way wrist radio. Then, after talking to him, they would continue falling. Even as a kid, I was disappointed it that show.

Hey, BB! There is only one person I can think of who has the entire set. He saves stuff from years ago to throw back at you through complaints to GoComics. Take a guess who that may be, except he most likely got put in the penalty box lately for an over-the-top rant. By way-back-then’s standards, it was par.

LOL!!! I think it’s so cool that the wrist “Wizard’s” (r u happy JPW? Lol! ) lightning bolt is incorporated in the word balloon in panel 2. Save the ink!

Here’s what I think we’ll see happen over the next week or two.

    1.Car skids off road

    2.Lena get free from cage

3.Lena eats Sprocket (except her feet, too stinky and dirty!)

    4.Nitrate stumbles through the forest

5.Tracy and Sam find Flattops car

6.Searching the wood they find Nitrates frozen body, cigarette still in his mouth.

7.Once again Tracy has nothing to do with capturing a villain.

8.Lena is captured, is sent to the zoo and lives happily ever after!

Say it ain’t so Bassman! I may have to turn my Magpie Wings lapel pin upside down as a symbol of mourning if that truly lost classic bit of literature and lore is lost to the ages.

And good morning VB and all!

Yikes! I feel lost among all these fanatical nostalgia buffs commenting here. I read the Dick Tracy strip regularly as a kid, when the Tribune was one of the newspapers we got at home every day; less often when I grew older and less interested in comics; still less when I went off to college and was only a semi-regular buyer of newspapers; and least of all by the time I started working and had to rely more on radio and TV for news. I never watched any Tracy cartoons on TV (didn’t even know until lately that there was such a thing) and never read any Tracy comic books. I did not like Warren Beatty’s film. I only started reading Tracy on GoComics regularly with the onset of the Staton-Curtis era. And I do not spend time perusing the archival sources for old Tracy lore. All these things set me apart from the most vocal commentators here. But I still am unclear as to Lizz’s current official status in regard to the Nitrate scam case. And I am not moved to paroxysms over Flattop, Jr., whom I scarcely recall, and, even less, his car. Only their part in the current story arc concerns me. I am enjoying the brilliant work of Team Tracy, here and now. I shall continue to do so….

Seems straight up that when he died his “spirit” left his body.-Not a Ghost Buster fan?No, the “ghost” as drawn by Gould was a “see-through” version of the girl Flattop killed, not Flattop himself. It seemed clear to me that Gould was saying that Flattop was “haunted” by his victim, whether in his own mind or not.Actually, I am not a fan of ghost stories, so I am not surprised that I did not care for that part of the Flattop Jr. yarn.

in layman’s language, Mattie most likely has them en toto. Do you have his e-mail address? I have it, but can’t publicly transfer it. Knowing him (and I think that I do as well as anyone here), he has probably cataloged the stories on a CD. When M&S was about to hit the skids, he would have taken anything for them. They were a work of art and wit! I remember a lot of them, and most of the episodes. Some would arguably say they are side-splitters. I think avenger09 can put you on the trail though. Good luck!!

ps…. If Mattie would cough them up, I would donate generously to GoComics for M&S dues. That oughta get his attention. I promise you, he lurks here.

You’re not going to see the Dick Tracy carrtoon characters in the Dick Tracy strip, even in a cameo, because Tribune does not control the rights to the cartoon characters.
