Alix: Dear Gramma, how's South Africa? I liked hearing about the ostriches and penguins... Have you seen any Great White Sharks yet? TIK TIK Arnold: Evie, it's absolutely safe! There's a cement wall to protect us. Gramma Evie: How do you KNOW Great Whites can't jump??

They CAN jump. Quite high, really. Up to ten feet from the videos I’ve seen.

Only to snag the seals from what I’ve seen not to go over walls.

.. my friend living in Hermanus swims basically EVERY day in the sea… an early morning swim group.. But in this strip we are witnessing the transformation of Evie the adventuress to Evie-the-I-won’t-ever-travel-anywhere-apart-from-Disneyland…Advise: Evie, pack your bags please… life won’t get any better than being on the beach in the Cape area..

A guy I know was attacked by a shark. He is pretty damn sure the shark enjoyed eating him.

Oh, Evie, loosen up! Now is the time to relax and enjoy everything with your man. I’m not afraid to ride on the back of the bike with mine, or even to take a ride with him in a small plane (even though the odds on that being dangerous are higher than your ocean swim) but mine has a license to fly small planes.

Sharks do NOT attack unless there’s blood in the water, or they sense distress – including what THEY consider distress, like kicking, thrashing feet.Period.Barracuda, on the other hand, will attack – and eat – anything MEAT that doesn’t attack THEM first!

The sharks in False Bay jump regularly and completely out of the water in pursuit of prey. Evie’s black swimsuit would make her look a bit too seal-like.Barracuda rarely attack.

Good point Evie.

People have irrational fears. Maybe a fear of sharks is Evie’s! Give this cartoon woman a break.
To those who are obviously new to the strip, Evie isn’t a “I won’t go anywhere but Disney” kind of woman. She’s gone all around to help with Habitat for Humanity!

I was so hoping this would get off the grandma thing for a while. Oh well.
