Mark: Good news, kiddies! Time for another exclusive WBBY "Watergate Profile!" Today's obituary-- John Mitchell. John Mitchell, the former U.S. Attorney General, has in recent weeks been repeatedly linked with both the Watergate caper and its cover-up. It would be a disservice to Mr. Mitchell and his character to prejudge the man, but everything known to date could lead one to conclude he's guilty! That's guilty! Guilty, guilty, guilty!!

@PianoGuy24Isn’t that Darrell Issa’s job (when he isn’t busy engaging in auto theft, arson, and insurance fraud)?

I love ancient history, don’t you?

So now it’s “Classic Doonesbury (1973)”? So is there no longer a Doonesbury Regular? Has Trudeau retired and not told anyone?
pbarnrob about 10 years ago
See ‘About Doonesbury’ to the right. This retro- gives Garry some time to work on his new TV series, Alpha House.

Oh- and Sundays will be (relatively) current (within the usual constraints of the publishing schedule).

Back when the Watergate hearings were going full tilt on national TV, and preempted regular soap opera programming, my wife blurted out in frustration, “Who is this guy Watergate anyway?”

Watergate was an amazing scandal/era.

Still waiting for Ms Lacey Davenport to show up. The way the strip is jumping… and Duke.

Four guilties in the last panel! Nancy Grace gave the Duke lacrosse team only three guilties.

i guess clive and mrs pocatelli aren’t gonna make the lazarus list..he and his electra 225,plus his canvassing in white neighbourhoods was comedy gold..

Watergate was going on when I was a kid. I thought it was boring, but now I think I understand what an impact it was.

I think this was the strip that got Doonesbury booted from a lot of comic pages, and onto the editorial page.

Government and the way we perceive it today, be you left-, right-wing, or other, owes much to these strips.

Man, does this ever bring back the memories.
In 1973, I was a freshman at Brown. Daniel Ellsberg came to speak; a hero then, a hero now.

1. yes 2a. yes. 2b. and sadly also on Good Morning America where she is allowed to screech for 5 minutes or so (mostly at 7:30 am).

…and the controversy begins – the strip that got Doonesbury moved to the editorial page in many papers
BE THIS GUY about 10 years ago
@AKHendersonThe difference is, Mark was right. Grace was wrong.

corsadeb about 10 years ago
Perhaps my favorite all-time Doonesbury. I love Mark and his passion in his work. I still have the original I cut out of the paper so many years ago.
lapopessa about 10 years ago
I remember when a ton of papers refused to carry the strip this day. Quite a turning point.
pouncingtiger about 10 years ago
These old Doonesbury strips are history lessons for people who are under 45.
NCTom Premium Member about 10 years ago
maybe the most famous single Doonesbury strip ever. and got the strip moved to the editorial page of a whole bunch of newspapers, as I remember.

@PianoGuy24Here is a video of the Black Panthers with the bully clubs.Look at all the intimidated white people, like the woman on the phone in the doorway. Exactly how many people were kept from voting?-http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=neGbKHyGuHU

In keeping with the song, Dean should be the next Nixon aid mentioned.
