And yes, I know the strip is dated 1994, but the expression is older. I had an instant flashback. “I’m sure!” “Really!”

@orinoco womble: GoComics started publishing Calvin & Hoibbes in 2007 and there were initially a lot of repeats. Those stopped and only fresh ones have been issued until two weeks ago since when every one has been a repeat. I hope they haven’t run out of fresh ones!

The black hand of death is wimpy. I had the infamous belt of death. One belt with 5’ dry wall screws inserted into the eyelets is bound to make the kids around here laugh when I offer to beat them with it. Of course the little ankle biters will take THE INFAMOUS BELT OF DEATH away from me and give me a good hiding! Guess I’m doing something wrong!!

I know what THRUSH stood for (Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity), but what did KAOS stand for?

And then there’s the Man from U.N.C.L.E. Which in Spanish is CIPOL. Hardly as catchy.

Hmm, somewhat timely with the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand coming up in a couple of months. The Black Hand was the name of the group that Gavrilo Princip, the successful assassin of the day, was a member of.

A previous attempt earlier in the day to blow the archduke up with a grenade failed, yet he pressed on. Gavrilo missed his first attempt because the crowds kept him from getting close, but managed to get his fatal shot in when the archduke’s driver later got lost and stopped the car right in front of him to make a U-turn.

I guess you can say that it was not a good day for the archduke.

They should call it the Club for the Liberation and Integration of Terrifying Organisms and their Rehabilitation Into Society. The acronym could be a problem, though.
