I’ve found people who believe Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday (which the store ad suggests) but it’s a Hispanic American celebration of heritage (which would explain Baldo’s reaction), exactly like Columbus Day (not an Italian holiday) and St. Patrick’s Day (not an Irish holiday), which I guess made May the Fourth be with you a geek celebration.
Sorry if I ruined the joke for you all by explaining it.
In Olympia WA you need a photo ID to use the garbage dump, but no id is needed to vote. Makes you appreciate the priorities the politicians set for everyone.
You must be a Democrat, which is one reason why they’re headed for a major @$$-whipping this November. Nothing wrong with requiring a valid ID to vote, in order to prevent voter fraud. The Dems don’t like it, because they rely on voter fraud in order to win.
As I understand it, Cinco de Mayo is an American celebration but the battle it celebrates took place in Mexico. A small, ill-equipped Mexican army met up with and defeated a much larger and better equipped French army. When the news finally reached the Mexican settlers in Texas and New Mexico they decided the victory made a great reason to celebrate and created Cinco De Mayo. While the celebration caught on in the US it never did in Mexico.

Kind of how discriminating, isn’t it?

I’ve never seen such a sign at a retail establishment. $$$ is all that matters. Of course, I don’t shop everywhere.

why it is a American holiday not a mexican one

That’s a real stretch.

The only people it’s discriminating against are the ones here illegally. I repeat, ILLEGALLY.

I have loved “Baldo” since I first started reading it. But this is bogus and we readers didn’t deserve it.

Where can you vote and not be registered AND show ID.

Captain Smokeblower: Great comment. However, St. Patrick’s Day is a legal holiday in Montserrat.
lbalch798 about 10 years ago
Still blowing smoke captain. Only the drunken “party time” is American. In Mexico it is celebrated as a military victory over the French.
