What seems to have happened is that the Republican base has been taught, and learned, that any attempt at governing (if it involves discussing things with Democrats) is a reason to be fired. Cantor protected America by ending the debt ceiling standoff. Because America didn’t go down in flames, he’s out. The Republicans were already incapable of governing, this will make it worse. Since Democrats can’t lose the presidency, the only hope for the country is to get rid of Republican majorities, or wait for the party to reform itself.

Democracy in action, if voter suppression isn’t enough add a dose of flat out bribery.

Cantor lost because he’s Republican-Light.This is a message to other Republicans that if you sell out your principles to left-wing special interest groups, you will go down!

I don’t know why they keep using that drawing of Robert Benchley by Carl Rose (originally from Try and Stop Me by Bennett Cerf). The book’s still in copyright.

“Reich” being a inference to Nazi Germany, it was actually a very left leaning government. Quote from Wikipedia:." The National Socialist Program originated at a DAP congress in Vienna, then was taken to Munich, by the civil engineer and theoretician Rudolf Jung, who, having explicitly supported Hitler".Democrats embrace socialist principles, like the Nazis.

It’s telling that the cartoonist considers the exercise of democratic choice to be some sort of tragedy.

I am pretty sure that this strip has to do with the sudden and poorly-explained resignation of a state senator, who is a democrat. Before the resignation, the makeup of the senate was 20 per party, with the Lt. Governor casting the deciding vote in a tie, and the Lt. Governor is also a Democrat. Now it is 20 – 19, Republicans.

Republicans don’t seem to like ACA, nor do they have any ideas for alternatives, other than to pray that the House and/or the Supreme Court find a way to negate it. Therefore, they only had 5 years to come up with a system they thought was better for people who make less than $15000 per year. And those years are gone, and no one thought of anything.

As a result, and the fact that the governor ran on a platform of wanting to expand Medicaid, the Republicans held the biennial state budget hostage for months, claiming that health care costs and budgets have nothing to do with one another. Truly, this is a thinly disguised method for kicking the can and waiting for whatever will get them out of doing their job.

Now that they have a majority in the senate (they already have one in the house, which is why we now have a law requiring women who want an abortion to submit to an ultrasound [at their expense] when the fetus is too small to register….could have been worse…the original bill called for a trans-vaginal ultrasound), it is now open season on health care for the poor. The entire issue of Medicaid expansion or state health exchange will be separated from the budget, and will be kept (for all eternity) so that there can be “further study”, which everyone knows means that there will be no accommodations for access for the working poor. Not to worry, though: there are still plenty of emergency rooms. Even though hospital administrators from all over the state (and many of the hospital chains are large Republican contributors) begged the legislature to expand Medicaid, their pleas fell on deaf ears.

There is a meme going around that Republicans care more for the unborn than for the living, and it may very well be untrue. You won’t be able to prove that in Virginia, though.

Given that we also passed a constitutional amendment that takes AWAY rights (for gay people to marry, or to have their marriages or even civil unions from other states recognized in VA), we have changed our official slogan. It was “Virginia is for Lovers”. We now had to add the tag line: “Some restrictions apply.”

Bribery is the only way the GOP can win, locally and nationally.
