So, Annie admits to luring Dick Tracy. Interesting. Does she actually live with Axel instead of the Silos?

Hey VB and all. Okay I admit, I’m getting just a LITTLE lost here.

What’s lost has been found. What’s to come has already been…we’ve crossed over now..

I, too am completely lost….

This has the feel of a Dr Who episode.

Leaping gizzards, it’s LOA’s fault Tracy is laid up.

I am completely confused as to what is going on…

Annie brought Tracy into all this? Wild! This just gets better and better.

Notice that that the clock’s hour hand is pointing exactly to the four, not to a point 3/4 of the way from the four to the five as it should at 4:45. Could this be a clue?

What I want to know is .. where’s Sandy?

I’m so confused right now. How did Tracy wind up in the hospital and how did he go back to 1944?

This is soooo interesting! We have proof that this is actually 1944, or at least that Annie thinks it is. Also we have Annie admitting that she lured Tracy here, probably to protect her from Axel.

Back in the sixties, there were a couple other illustrators named Tex Blaisdell and David Lettick, who tried to imitate Gray’s style. However, they were rather unsuccessful, in my opinion.

I may have lost something because I do not saw any strip that tells us what happens to Dick Tracy ?

I assume Annie is referring to her letter with the coordinates of Thunder Island. We did not see how Tracy was injured or how he went from his boat to the hospital. That Axel is on the island and Annie knows of his presence is an interesting turn of events. Why is the radio program, “Belinda,” so popular? Annie is pressing on but she sure could use a hand from Tracy. Is it his injury or the medication that’s keeping him in the hospital?

Theory—the radio program “Belinda” is some form of mind control that makes people incredibly suggestible. Axel is using it to create a small town in 1944, complete with not quite right props, fashion, etc. However, Annie has taken advantage of the suggestibility to insert Dick Tracy into the story as the town cop who’s been away at the war.

Nobody’s around because theyve all been bored to sleep with the story annie!

That’s clearing up some of the mystery!Annie is being held by Axel – likely in a recreation of Simmons Corners – and Annie used the letter to lead Tracy to the island, with it’s ‘gateway’ there, hoping he could help her escape.And I’m betting that radio show does more than hawk Ovaltine!

Oh, yes! And I forgot what I was really thinking yesterday!.If this is the 1944 Annie, we have a new problem: Solution of this mystery will not resolve the Butcher of the Balkans cliff hanger. If anything, successful resolution of this situation may well be the setup for Annie getting kidnapped in the future!.Unless something else will happen. Perhaps, resolution of this situation will preclude Annie going on future adventures, at least the one where she was kidnapped by the Butcher!

Good morning Dick Tracy and Annie fans. This sounds like an episode of the Outer Limits or the Twilight Zone! Anyone remember this storyline?

However, the map in Volume 5 of “The Complete Little Orphan Annie” puts the Silo Farm between Poole’s 5&10 and Carson’s Haunted House. For some reason, the old map left it off.

It’s more like 3:45 .

….and of course it is convenient that Tracy does not have his wrist wizard because he gave it back to be fixed.

You know if I wanted to read Annie I’d go to the reprint stuff and the site on Gocomics but this is Dick Tracy isn’t it? Let Daddy and Annie go off into the sunset together and bring Dick Tracy back to fighting ghoulish criminals for gosh sakes!

I also thought there was something odd about that clock, but, looking at it more closely, it does appear that the hour hand would move to the “5” position when the minute hand sweeps up to the top of the hour. Maybe we’re reading something into it that’s not there, I don’t know.But here’s something else – isn’t a standard barber pole red and white? I thought it was because in the old days, they had bandages to treat wounds, or something like that. I don’t think a regular barber pole is red, white and blue. But then again, maybe that’s Go Comics’ coloring, not part of the original art.

I’m thinking that the radio program is creating mass hypnosis and subconsciously brainwashing everybody in town to make them believe it is 1944. Since Annie is not listening, she has not been brainwashed.

I’m sick and tired of thos mongrelization with a strip I never cared about, a shameless glorification of the rich!

“You are about to enter a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. Your next stop, The Twilight Zone”. Which did feature a number of episodes featuring time travel, usually with bad results for the time traveler(s).

Thanks to all who set me straight on the true colors of barber poles. Working together, we might just solve this mystery. Or not. (But it’s fun trying.)

The power of the Z! Truly amazing!

Annie and I are both very confused. That clock clearly reads “3:45,” not “4:45.” Is this “Simmons Corners” a Potemkin Village constructed by Axel [of whom I have no prior memory or knowledge; just what’s been shared on the board here] for his nefarious purposes? Is this Belinda some kind of mind-control broadcast keeping everyone (whoever they might be) under Axel’s control? Does Annie know that Tracy came to Thunder Island in search of her, and does she feel therefore that it’s her fault he has been shanghaied into a drugged detention? What the deuce is going on here?

You’re right, JP – tomorrow should be a memorable 4th of July tribute, if it has both Annie and Dick Tracy.

The car in the first frame doesn’t even look like a 1940s era car save for maybe the front end. Another clue?

Actually if you look back at the June 12 strip where were were introduced to Axel, you see that he was talking on a rather old-fashioned looking phone, and it’s definitely a dial phone (1944-style) and not a more modern touch-tone.

No comment. I don’t wanna get put in the Penalty Box. Stilldamatt tells me the food isn’t very good.

Axel’s phone most resembles the Model 302, produced from 1937 until the late 1940’s, except that the cord shouldn’t really be curly, but it doesn’t look quite curly enough to be the 1949 Model 500. History of dial phones: http://www.arctos.com/dial/
