Thanks, Guys…….it helps to know how to handle things from other’s experiences. Arthur, I gained lots of knowledge from your wife’s hip replacement. Jack’s is farther down the road, thankfully, and this anti inflammatory drug worked like a miracle!!!
Our cleaning lady comes today, so I have things to put away so she can clean.
Rita, I’m glad to know Jack is doing so much better. Getting old ain’t much fun sometimes, is it. I laughed out loud at your comment about putting stuff away for the cleaning lady. I do the same thing, and I take a lot of teasing about “cleaning for the cleaning lady” from Michael for it. I see it as removing the clutter so she can clean.
More gorgeous weather here yesterday. Supposed to get hotter today, although still not up to normal.
Good morning Vagabonds..Well ol’ Sol has finely made himself known. Still cool..The Caladonia County Fair has today and tomorrow left to go.The Champlain Valley Expo began yesterday and will run through Labor Day weekend. (Labor Day already shee).Seventy five years ago a magic movie came to the big screen. In it a young girl learns that with some Brains, a little Heart and a lot of Courage she can get home.Name this movie..I hope all are well or on the mend..I’ll try to return later, I have a few trivia questions to go along with our movie..ttfn
It’s Sunday again and almost Labor day. I can’t believe how fast the days are going by. At night the temps. have almost been like fall and I think the plants in the garden have been confused. This week they are supposed to be in the mid 80’s. I hope so.
Howdy Gang..Looks like we’er goin’a have a nice day..Now that the movie is known I have some trivia questions:.How many rolls did Frank Morgan play in the movie?.Who was originally cast as the Tin Woodsman?.Who did MGM originally want to play Dorthy?.Ok, have fun all..ttfn
Rain again today! Woo Hoo! Our plants are loving it! We burned our wood stove for the first time in “summer” yesterday! The high was 49, and the low 45. This will be changing back to summer in a day or two.
Love your trivia, Mark.I thought Frank Morgan played 3 parts, but it could only be two. And, I think Buddy Epsen was in the mix as The Tin Man, and Shirley Temple was to have been Dorothy. Right?
Frank Morgan played the Professor in Kansas, the Wizard, the Emerald City gatekeeper, the carriage driver and the doorkeeper at the wizard’s palace. There may have been more, but I can’t remember any.
Rita’s right it was Buddy Ebsen (he of Jed Clampett fame) that was scheduled to play the tin man, but when he was made up for the part, they used aluminum powder sprayed over oil or lotion on his face, and over a couple of weeks, it coated the inside of his lungs. I remember from his autobiography how scared he was when he couldn’t breathe. He was hospitalized for a while and gave up the part. I have read recently that he “had an allergic reaction” to the powder, but it was a lot more dangerous than that. Fortunately the makeup people got smarter and mixed the powder with lotion before applying it to Jack Haley.
Believe it or not, the reason Shirley Temple was not used to play Dorothy was because MGM executives were worried that she couldn’t sing well enough to pull off “Over the Rainbow”. This is Shirley Temple we’re talking about – only the most famous singing star (child or otherwise) of her day. Garland was not only unknown, but she was 16 and honestly, too old to play a 10 year old. They had to bind down her “womanly parts” in order to reduce her apparent age.
I have a recommendation for you good folks. If you can find DVD’s or recordings by Ken Davis, he is one of the funniest and cleanest comedians I have ever heard. All of his humor is appropriate for young teens on up. His routines and delivery remind me a lot of a cross between Bill Cosby and Paul Lynde.
Still very nice weather around here (for the Nevada desert in the summertime). It hasn’t been above 92 or 93 for the past few days and for us that is wonderful. Mid-70’s at night and it is such a relief to be able to open the windows for a while.
