I don’t get it either—would somebody explain it? Are they in the snow or a dessert – and is that relavent? Why the weird volcanoes?

OK - so the point is that what is “obvioius” to one person who is short-sighted may not be so obvious to someone who has a broader - deeper, more global understanding of an issue, like Global Climate Change, for example.

So it is absurdist humor – ironic.

Thanks! I still think its a bit weak. I usually love his humor.

It’s the “peek-a-boo” theory of evidence – If I can’t see it (or if it’s not in my current reality, if you prefer), then it can’t be true … .Shout out to Stephen Colbert . .. .

Does he quote chapter and verse or are you just making that up because of a bias?

    @Whatroughbeast:

He doesn’t have to quote chapter and verse because “everybody knows” it’s in the Bible. Nobody has ever SEEN such a passage stating the Earth is the center of the universe, but we’re PRETTY SURE it’s in there.

I prefer the parable of the blind men describing an elephant, and each gives a different description depending on where they’re standing.

Unfortunately, Wiley falls into the trap of thinking ANYONE sees clearly and without bias.

(Assuming the “short-sighted” interpretation on this list is correct. I didn’t get this one, either)

Interesting that those on the east coast get a winter, while most of the midwest and west is well above normal temperatures, and low on snowfall, and “the whole world” is colder. If “easterners” have to turn on the AC, it’s hot around the globe. “Earth to NewYork/D.C. corridor”– YOU are NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE!

What does the “Flat Earth Society’ members do at meetings?

Sit around looking grumpy because no one else “believes”?

Elbeck sez :”The quandary here is: How do you argue with someone who only latches onto what is in front of him, refusing to consider the bigger picture?”

Yes, but then again how do you argue with someone who sees only part of the larger picture? My interpretation of the comic was that the “smart” guy who knew the Earth is round perhaps decided to go i the opposite direction that they were supposed to - since the Earth is round they would end up where they are supposed to go , but he did not consider distances or obstacles…

Which is where the expression “a little knowledge can be dangerous” - emphasis on “little”.

The high amounts of snow in the NE this winter is actually CONSISTENT with Global Climate Change Theory – warmer oceans means more moisture leading to more snow!!

The average Global Temperature THIS winter is HOT – just because all we can “see”, as in the cartoon, is cold doesn’t mean the whole world is cold.

dtrauma, it was pretty cold in NW Illinois this winter and my friend in Tuscan said it’s cold there, too. And I heard that it’s supposed to be another summer like last year in IL, which is not good for the farmers.

Why do people continually bring up global warming here? Don’t you know that on this subject that almost no one is going to change their minds no matter what “facts” you throw at them? Same goes for abortion and many other issues. You may argue until your blue in the face, but you’ll never get the other to change their mind.

I love all the old quotes being posted!

Wether climate change is caused by us or not, I think it’s happening.

I do know that internal combustion exhaust is poisonous, so producing less of it seems a good idea anyway.
