I was going to ask if there’s a Labor Day in the UK, but just googled it. Looks like they have theirs in May (International Workers’ Day).

We have Summer Bank Holiday though, which is the last Monday of August so a week before the US Labor Day. (The online strip appears a week after the newspaper)

There are two public holidays in May – the first monday (May Day – maypole dancing etc, if it’s also ‘international workers day’ that’s coincidental or re-use of an existing traditional holiday date, I think) and the last Monday, which was originally the movable feast of Whitsun but fixed in 1971. This coincides with US Memorial Day.
