Rose: "...Confident that the strangers were harmless...the doe scurried up the hill to join her friends grazing in a nearby meadow
Doe: I like the sound of that!
‘Curious about the long pipe that a stranger was holding the buck stopped and stared only to see a flash of light before falling down to the ground.’ Who is the intelligent gender now?
Maybe they learn other things too, when we were in Carson City, NV we had several deer that were very polite. .One night we were driving around looking at Christmas lights and came to a pedestrian crossing with speed bumps. The deer was waiting at the side of the road and we slowed. It carefully picked it’s way across the road in the crosswalk and then bounded off into the darkness..The wild horses were much more likly to mosy on out into the highway and try crossing at the curved hilltop blind spots, the deer would walk along next to it like hichhikers until the reached the nice level spots you could see aways.
I worked at a remote site for some years. Our Office Administrator was nicknamed “Diana the Huntress” ‘cause she’d totaled two company cars hitting deer. The Boss grounded her. If she needed something from our main facility, someone else made the drive. Nobody cared about the cars, we worried she’d get hurt.

“In the trees alongside a seldom used road the doe waited until the only car to use it in a month was almost upon her before jumping into the road.”

water_moon: I had that problem Sunday. Hidden by a large truck, a pedestrian tried to run a red light and almost hit my car broadside.
