Thanx, y’all. If the avatars were bigger, though, I could have more fun with them. I have this really nice picture in my mind involving a crown of thorns, but it wouldn’t be clear with this resolution…
It’s getting harder and harder to manage even a small laugh
at the members of the Party of No these days. When they start coming up with real suggestions for the good the of people of this country, then I might start taking them seriously again.
Yekatman—interesting, the angry old white people demographic. There was a still frame from the last SOTU address that showed a core group of frowning Republicans.
I studied the expressions on the faces of (what I call crusty old white guys) and wondered…who could they possibly appeal to?
Father time is taking care of the angry old white people.
The Republican party would do well to plan for the future.
Hello, smart people. Im a college student in pol sci class and have to write a two page paper about this comic. Would you mind telling me what it’s about? I think I know what it means but need more assistance. Thanks.
Elephants have extremely thick skulls, and despite their size, brains about the same size as humans. They are reputed to be fearful of small things that offer them no threat of harm. With real elephants that is a myth, with Republicans- maybe not.
klueless—Truly? What college? What year are you in?
“More assistance” is awfully close to a redundancy, when seen in the context of the sentence you used it in.
Two pages. The repeal gavel may help you with some filler…Luckovich is pointing out how the right is bashing their own brain trust by mounting a state by state lawsuit in an attempt to appeal any or all of the federal health care reform legislation.
Look into how successful state v. fed has been in the past. One pundit described it as thus-“The state suing the federal government is like chasing a car while on a treadmill”.
What is the malady where one inflicts pain (violence) upon oneself? The Republican party seems stricken with such these days.
I don’t think masochism is quite the diagnosis here; the GOP is doing itself injury, but it doesn’t seem to be getting off on the pain per se, like a masochist would. A more appropriate disorder in this case might be “Münchausen syndrome”, where a person deliberately inflicts physical harm to him/her self in order to draw attention and sympathy.
There are also a wide variety of compulsive self-injury, such as head-banging, hair-pulling, self-mutilation (cutting), which can be either neurotic or psychotic in origin, but I don’t know of an umbrella term for these other than “Self Harm.”

Yeah, the GOP bashing themselves is certainly hopeful.

Republicans have a virtual lock on angry old white people.
How many other demographic groups can they win over with this tactic?

masochism.- yep.
klueless about 14 years ago
Lol! I never thought about it in that tense. I was looking at the obvious and didn’t ‘read between the lines’. Thanks a lot for the input.

That is the malady I was hinting about for klueless, Fritz.
I hope she touched on it in her paper.
