Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for November 14, 2014
Transcript:
Alice: Mommy, tell the story of how I rescued Polypill. Mom: We were in a pet store. You were two years old. Mom: You found a stuffed rabbit on a shelf of doggy chew toys and stuffed it in your mouth and wouldn't let go. Daddy got embarrassed and said we'd buy it if you spit it out. Mom: Ten second later you tried the same trick on a rawhide bone. Daddy said, "No way." Alice: And thats how I rescued you!

Love the rabbit’s name. I had one just like it when I was her age. Mine was named Whitey. Mom told me I used to sit next to the washing machine when she “bathed” him, and next to her when she performed surgery.

Its so sad that Richard Thompson’s disease progressed to the point where he could no longer continue the strip. His wit is sorely missed…

Why were they on a pet store? I thought they didn’t have pets.

Oh my! Look at two year old Alice! She looks rabid… like she’s foaming at the mouth.

When I was a kid, we’d go downtown on Friday evenings so that Dad could do some extra work at his office, and Mom and I could troll the three dime stores (Kress, McCrory’s, and Woolworth’s) in downtown St. Petersburg. My favorite was the Kress basement, where I could ogle the goldfish and baby turtles.

As long as I can remember. My family has always had a pet. We have had 3 cats (4 if you count the stray cat who wouldn’t leave our home for 3 years…she was a honorary pet), 2 dogs…not at once (3 if you count the stray dog who wouldn’t leave), 2 snakes, 2 mice, god knows how many hermit crabs, 2 birds, and countless fish.
Right now the only pet left is one of the cats (daughter of our first cat…second one was from our cat’s first litter). She is 16 years old mostly blind but we love her

Was two-year old Alice still teething? Has Polyfill suffered from her (his?) two years with Alice?I’m glad Madeline is so matter-of-fact about it all.

I crocheted a stuffed bunny about 7 years ago and had to name it Polyfill in Alice’s honor.
Yes, Alice. It’s all about you.
