@spaced man spliffThe big problem is we rarely know which ones are right when the time comes. WWII was a very unpopular thing in the US (many who were for our entry favored going in with the Axis). Vietnam turned out to be a huge bust because we slowed the collapse of Communism rather than hastening it, the opposite of the war against Fascism. More modern wars… we may never know. We need a good crystal ball.
My hat’s off to those who endured the unthinkable regardless.
I strongly disagreed with our entry in some recent wars, however,I honor and admire, all those who answered the call to serve when they were needed. May our country always do right by you.
Like the one who just walked away from the secure compound and got himself caught? And caused the deaths of multiple service persons who went looking for him?
@MayKitten— As it happens, my wife’s family shared a house with the Nixon family for part of a year, before he was “the” Richard Nixon that people love to hate. I had never heard a bad word about him. There has been lots of speculation as to how he may have changed from the Nixon of that time to the one you sporadically encountered. Mostly it centers around the press coverage during the 1952 election. Pay your money and take your choice.
@spaced man spliff.“Not true, my fine feathered so-called friend. If the US was directly attacked, I’d be right there on the front.”.Feathered?.Americans were killed in Korea, McNamara told Johnson Americans were killed in Vietnam — ere long, they were in reality, Americans were killed by those hosted by Afghanistan. We’re you gung how for jumping on the front lines?Americans were killed while trying to save the starving in Somalia. How do you decide what’s important enough to fight over and what we should ignore?.“WW II preserved civilization in Europe, and probably kept 20 million…”.True, but we didn’t declare war on Germany to save Europe or Jews. We declared war on Japan and then Germany declared war on us. If lives saved counted, Stalin killed over 20 million, Mao killed over 40 million. The most we did was try to regard the expansion of the killing fields as we all stood on the front lines of thermonuclear destruction if we pushed back too hard.(Putin still has enough to kill you and me as we sleep)

“I truly believe that WW II was the last war that America needed to fight.”.

ED2 must have gotten, as I call it, “Flamed”. I don’t see his comment here.

Perhaps “exoticdoc2” is a user name for either Mitt Romney or Mitch McConnell.
