A colleague of mine used to make scrambled eggs for a church-basement-full of people for breakfasts. He said in the “good old days,” he used to mix a couple of raw eggs in with them to loosen them up some. Don’t know whether anyone was poisoned. When I was young we used to come down with GI upsets a lot and thought nothing of it. Once my mom and I both got the “flu” after eating some pralines she’d bought. Don’t know how much this was salmonella-related, but I’ll bet some was.

My family didn’t call rubber spatulas “child cheaters” for nothing!

I’m thinking the Mom is getting what’s on the spatula and gives her the bowl.

Meg will be a sweet girl after she cleans the bowl…

Do you mean to tell me that parents actually give their kids the batter bowl to “lick” but hide the spatula?! that’s cruel!
Old wives tale, Q4horse. There is nothing wrong with raw eggs as long as they are “fresh”.

Old family comment to someone given a multiple-choice list for meals and does not respond: “Wanna suck a raw egg?”

And actually, a little salmonella is probably good for you anyway.
