I take my nom de internet from the surly shiner of shoes and general charman at the Blue Boar hotel in Dickens’s novels. Also adopted from the nickname in high school because I wore boots even in the summer: I did not like the cheap uncomfortable shoes my foster parents bought for me. My avatar comes from the Puss in Boots movie. Most of the famous Bootses are all guys. I don’t understand how occasionally people think I’m a female Boots, or why Boots is supposed to be feminine at all. Maybe the cat is too cute.
“Puppy love” is named for its resemblance to the adoring, worshipful affection that may be felt for a puppy. Boys can adore puppies, too. But since Snoopy gets only cards from girls, we might assume these are human girls who have a crush on Snoopy.Or do you think these are cards from “female canines”? (I don’t want to use the other word).
I think he means funny-peculiar. Generally, if you have a group of twenty or so people, at least two of them will have the same name. It’s a little more likely for male names than female, but that is how common names tend to be.

Most of those names are woefully out of date. Some may come back into style someday tho…

Maybe Charlie Brown should check the names on those Valentine envelopes…

Are these Snoopy mentions he got Valentine’s from friends of the Schulz family? Even OL’ HELEN?
coreym5 about 9 years ago
Amy, Meredith, and Jill are the names of Schulz’s daughters, so it’s probably not a coincidence they’re included among Snoopy’s admirers.

He even got one from Frieda, who is always criticising him. I guess deep down she truly cares.

Well, I think Marcie likes him (she calls him Charles); but she never sends anything to that effect either.
