Who’s going to watch Michael and Elizabeth while their parents are working?

The kids are in school during the day. If Ellie is smart, though, she’ll insist on the same salary that John would have to pay any other temporary employee.

Why should he pay her? Doesn’t the household money come from John? She doesn’t seem to have any trouble spending it. I would think it would mean more money for the family if she pitches in to help through this little glitch. She is willing to work for free for the library and yet her husband should pay her?

He won’t pay her plus he has things to do during his lunch so she won’t even get a free lunch. It’s all household money but there’s something else at stake here.

Two reasons. 1. He thinks you don’t do anything of importance at home. 2. He thinks you’ll do the job for free.-—Got that right, especially #2.

Does anyone know whether Jean is a hygienist or an office assistant?

Believe Jean is a chair-side. Elly should help him out, and hire someone to take care of the house and kids. That might teach him not to take her for granted as it will cost as much, if not more, for the helper than a part-time worker at the dental office.

Grandpa Jim has an unpaid debt to John for repairs. Pottery Barn Law: “You break it, you bought it”. Not sure about liens, but John could take Jim to small claims court and seek garnishment.
