It is more than likely not a desk, but a small narrow cabinet for holding dental supplies, & the chair is going down beside it & not on top of it. It is in line with the stool, & not the chair.
It reminded me of an old cartoon, probably Tom & Jerry, where a barber is giving mice haircuts. Suddenly his shop is attacked by a bunch of cats, who clamp the barber down in his own reclining chair while they kidnap all the mice.
Could they not have taken the time to give her a refresher course before the place opened? Come on, no dentist worth his high prices is going to risk losing a client, or worse getting sued for malpractice, by just dumping someone into the job without making sure she’s capable. I was under the impression this comic was based on Lynn’s real life to some extent.

Imagine the chair doing that if Phil had to spit.

Somehow I can picture John Ritter in this scene. He was one of the best.

Good thing he’s her brother and it’s not some other patient! There would be a law suit coming!

John should’ve given her a refresher course before taking Elly back to work. He can’t complain if she messes things up from lack of practice.

That’s like the old Emil J. Paidar barber chairs. They could dump you like that in a heartbeat.
