I can’t sit in my chair and eat breakfast on my lap with a laptop on my lap, but I can with the paper! I can’t do the crossword in bed with the laptop (well I could, but who wants to) and i can’t take the laptop in the bathroom or take a bath with it, but I can with my newspaper!

Years ago our newspapers and catalogues found their final destination in our outhouse. I wonder if there is an app for that?

I read the WSJ even though I have it online too, and read online first. Seems I miss stuff in the online version. One would expect the opposite.

I read Drabble online because my newspaper stopped running it. The thing I like about the online comics is the comments.

The best part of online comics is often the comments. I pick up all of my old favorites that the daily newspaper no longer run here, plus the Family Circus because the comments far surpass the comic.

Another big advantage for good old hardcopy newspapers is air travel. When descending for a landing and the flight crew announces that the time has come for all electronic equipment to be shut down, most other passengers have to just sit and be bored until getting to rush to the exit. I get to keep on reading.

our daily switched from broadsheet to tabloid and the only thing left is the comics, but they have been squished to illegibility.

This is way better than the paper, i don’t have to go out to get it, and I can customize what comics I want to read, rather than be stuck with some regional preferences and space being at a premium. One of the things, i hated about moving was getting used to a different layout and choice of comics. Some places I never got used to because of that, I know it sounds weird but it’s the little things that make a place livable. And having to buy 2-3 different Sunday papers just to get my fix is wasteful and stupid.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each, but I do like holding a newspaper in my hands. But I am a retired printing press operator, so I admit I have a bias. The smell issue some mentioned: The most noticeable change in aroma came about when papers switched to soy based inks. Most people who noticed preferred the new smell; it was less obnoxious than the coal-tar smell of old oil based inks.In fact, some newspapers sort of smell like newly mowed hay, which is rather pleasant. And, soy inks are mostly low-rub; they don’t come off all over your hands and clothes.Obviously, I take advantage of the internet, or I wouldn’t be here making this comment, but I sincerely hope there will always be a place for printed material in our lives.

I couldn’t wait to get to the comics in the the newspaper. It bothered me if I found an article worth reading, because I had to read it delaying the best part. Now I read gocomics first. The only reason I stopped getting the newspaper is they switched carriers and couldn’t find my house, after repeated tries.

I don’t miss the paper, trying to find articles between all of the ads.

I started reading comics on line before I stopped the paper. I switched everything else I did with the paper to online as well. Then, since nobody was taking the paper out of it’s bag to read it any more, I stopped it. After that, I gave up TV as well.

I still like the paper, but it’s so thin for a dollar a day.
