Of course, it’s fine to have a goal in entertainment or performance! But I guess Tiffany only sees the part of the Big Picture where her name is up in lights, and doesn’t see “steps 2-9”…. – (♫)“…L.A. is a great big freewayPut a hundred down and buy a carIn a week, maybe two, they’ll make you a star

Tiffany has her priorities; they are not, however, the conventional priorities Moony U. sets out for its students. How much she will benefit from her time spent there is problematic, but it will serve (as in many cases!) as a convenient way-station while she tries to attain what she does want….

Going to college for kids not that into it is an ok proposition for those that have a Plan A like Tiffany. When the Plan A fails (typically) they then do have a fallback option. If Plan A ends up working out (very infrequently) the knowledge gained is still an asset. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Not everyone needs college of course, but for a person with the risky aspirations that Tiffany has, it seems a very good backup. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++And, again, since we have not heard to the contrary, it appears that Tiffany has performed well enough in her first semester to not be on probation, so likely she is at least earning C’s and has about a 2.0 GPA. Who knows, maybe her manner is simply a feigned lack of interest. Perhaps she secretly enjoys her studies and since she seemed to have little interest in scholastics in high school… perhaps she is just keeping up that persona for show… because it is comfortable for her…. and she is not wanting to let others know the academics are interesting to her. This idea is really not as far fetched as it seems, for I have seen a few dozen students over the years who adopt such a persona, but they secretly shine on the exams. If this is the case for Tiffany, she may gradually come out of her shell and adopt a persona where she shows that she embraces her studies and efforts.

Dave…. I agree… Gunther could be helpful for Tiffany in being somehow a motivator (Not as several suggest may be the plot path… Gunther doing the work for Tiffany.) However, I still think there is a strong enough indication that Tiffany HAS worked successfully in college already. This must be a second semester for her (because Gunther is now there and of course was not there the first semester). Because Greg has not mentioned any sort of failure thus far for Tiffany, leads me to presume she at least earned passing grades and could potentially have earned strong grades in her first semester. Traditionally, the first semester is the make-or-break semester for most students… because they are figuring out how different high school is compared to college. Students who obtain a 2.0 or above their first semester TEND to have the rules figured out and succeed. So, with all the information we have thus far, I am suggesting Tiffany is working at her courses at least hard enough to be successful.

I actually felt bad when the strip showed Ox asking Bernice about Tiffany at the New Year’s Eve Party. Bernice answered Ox by voicin the observation that Luann must have only invited people she liked to her party. Certainly, she was free to not invite Tiffany. But, it just seemed mean at this point. Even to me, and I have become really tired of Tiffany at this point. However, i am interested to see where the strip is going with Tiffany from now on. i do appreciate all of the posting of past strips on here to show what’s happened. Seeing them grouped together helped to show that Tiffany has grown some. And, we always have to remember that there are creative forces calling the shots here. It’s only a comic strip…Only a comic strip…I’m also reminding myself- ha ha…

“Androids don’t just look human they act human. A big difference from a Robot or Drone.”.Depends on the writer since they remain imaginary at this time.Karel Kapek’s Rossum’s Universal Robots were biological in nature and went through the stages from drone-like to Adamic.Edmond Hamilton’s robot was mechanical in nature but other than that he was essentially human, the one more chemical/biological in nature was more like the concept of an android but also essentially human.Asimov’s mechanical/positronic but usually less human.Schwarzenegger’s robot was mechanical with a biological overlay, essentially inhuman as villain very noble as portrayed in follow-up film. All depends on creator wishes.

“within the confines of The Three Laws hopefully ….”.The flaws in the Three Laws of Robotics became more obvious over time and Asimov explored them well.A robot should not obey ANY old order from any human.(See Ella Enchanted)Recognition of a human and potential danger to humans requires deeper understanding of humanity and danger than most humans grasp.Millennial Man dwelt on the nature of humanity, especially with non biological parts but other writers have dealt with the humanity of self-aware computers and programs..Anyhoo, any robot who could handle it would be “a better man than I am, Gunga Din.”

" At least Tiffany has a Plan B. Luann doesn’t even have a Plan A yet.".She hasn’t really a plan, more of a goal. She wants to get there but hasn’t actually developed a plan..Further, it is worth remembering that a well-designed plan for a bad idea is still a bad idea..Luann figured out that whatever her ultimate — or even intermediate — goals, an academic education should help.

What I like about real science fiction is that it explores possibilities, implications, ramifications. Most of Asimov’s short stories would make great movies if cinema ever gets over its special effects, explosions, paranoia phase.Longyear, more Zenna Henderson, real Heinlein, Barnes, Schmidt, real Burroughs, Stableford, Turtledove, Flint, Webber, unreal Ellison, Swanwick, Campbell (without the chauvinism), Norton, A Bertram Chandler, Rusch, Niven of course, Pournell, ……

“… still waiting on a movie version of “Dragonriders of Pern” …”.Dragonsinger with Menoly would be a much better movie and a musical to boot..Maybe my disappointment won’t be too great.Imagine a movie based on Anne McCaffrey’s A WOMANLY TALENT from the February 1970 Analog, I think it was. They could show all the showy telekinetic powers and the mother genetically developing her fertilization.Or Gordon R. Dickson’s BROTHERHOODThey already ruined Longyear’s ENEMY MINE despite having an excellent actor, Gossett. They just missed the point.Maybe it’s time for a remake.Try again to do Burrough’s Pellucidar, concentrating on some small part of it.( On the Western front, they also messed up Louis L’Amour’s Sackett stories by trying to squeeze several novels into one movie rather than several movies out of one 127 page novel. Try, try again. And do, THE LAST OF THE BREED, they might squeeze that one into one single movie. THE WALKING DRUM should be five or so movies.).It will be interesting when anybody can use Computer Generated Imagery ?? to turn out their own versions of movies based on existing stories, using any previous actor to play any part or piecing an actor together based on hints in the stories. Pay royalties to the estates of the sources.

“t was intended that you read the book as well to understand the ending, as well as the loop that HAL found himself in. ".The movie was based on a short story. The book was based on the movie.HAL should have been a separate movie. Sending an experimental untried computer system on a mission-critical task would be utterly ridiculous.Requiring the audience to do its homework first doesn’t make artistic or economic sense.
