NEW YORK - Riverdale High is getting its first Illegal Alien character.

Archie Comics announced Thursday that in an issue out Oct 1, the long-running comic will introduce its first “openly non documented ” character, Juan Valdez.

The diminutive former coffee grower will defeat Jughead in a burger eating contest, win the affection of Veronica and wrestle over how to gently rebuff her flirtations since he might be deported at any moment.

Jon Goldwater, co-CEO of Archie Comics, says the introduction of Juan is “about keeping the world of Archie Comics current and inclusive.”

Panel-Panner, here on the West Coast, new installments usually appear between 10:07 to 10:20PM, Pacific Time. So if you’re on the East Coast, that’s what, 1:20AM?

The house…… Whoever threw the rock either had to get out of the car and walk up the driveway, or had one heck of a throwing arm if he did that from the street.

Detective Tracy, check for footprints. Chicago Cubs, check to see if the rock-thrower can be hired as a pitcher. Let him tie notes to the baseball if that’ll help.

Serious question: I don’t understand. who is the real artist in Dick Tracy strip? Sometimes we have good artwork on the strip, sometimes we have the worst artwork of the universe. Locher or Brozman? Both?

“Inclusive?” I like those words that come like ‘polish’ to clean your shoes.

And I note that while Jon Goldwater (of Archie) has his “JUAN”, Dick Tracy not to be outdone, has it’s own non documented “JOHN” !

VistaBill was quick to note it. The guy (Brozman) that changed Locher’s building sign at Police HQ has dropped some plants in front of the house.

Hope we’ll see Tess’s ears again to check if she’s wearing those “rubber duckie” earrings for the occasion

It’s funny, I also get the feeling that Locher draws a lot of these. I don’t think today is one of those days but it’s iffy, the middle panel is pretty well drawn. I was excited for the smooth look Tracy got but now I am definitely not a fan since the art is slowly progressing into stick people.

On another note…

How the hell did they even know he declined? Do they have the house bugged? Did I miss something? Why did they specifically say “too good”?

Somehow, some folks think it’s cool to do the “in your face” thing. Big mistake. PC is a big mistake, for whatever that means. Locher gambled on changing Macy, and look what it brought him - a handful of newspapers that carry the strip. Light-in-the-loafers stuff will only drive what’s left away. And he can ill-afford that! Good luck, Archie; you are fixing to do a Locher.

I think I know why the house keeps changing .. check out that radiation cloud drifting over the Garage and upstairs window.. must be from the Naperville Nuclear plant next door.. that explains the strange physical deformities everyone in town seems to be going through and also the rock throwing Zombies that keep breaking windows at night !

Just an FYI, the new character in Archie comics is an openly gay character named Kevin, not an illegal alien. His conflict with Veronica is based on her chasing him because of his looks and his obvious disinterest. Yahoo news had a feature about it this morning and Townhall carried a political cartoon about it.

First, let me congratulate neonleon59, on that great shot of Junior in better times

Rick Fletcher, back in the early eighties had a good example of a mature Junior in the strips he drew then.

For those here, that are not AWARE, back in mid 1980’s, Locher had his son John in as his Art Assistant. I believe he and Brozman attended the same Art School (Northern Illinois University - Fine Arts) and may well have been there at the same time.

Son John died rather suddenly in 1986, and Locher slowly morphed Junior into an appearance of son John. That’s what you SEE today. He also started a yellow “rubber ducky” in the corner of the Sunday Page panels, some think as a kind of “in strip” - “memorial”. Soon it took on the appearance of a yellow female “tit”!

Seem’s Brozman now doing the art, dropped it. For those who wish to see it earlier:

You’ll see the yellow “teet” in the second panel under Braces chin.

Bottom left, the last appearance of Sam Catchem over a year and a half ago. While he still promotes (furtively) Junior/John, he has Sam “invisable” on a back seat at the Naperville Police HQ.

Jounior and Lime Light look like clones! Perhaps a relationship to begin? :)

Different strip, but how about Knobby Walsh and Joe Palooka ?

You could say they were close and Palooka knew how to take a punch !

I always wanted to see that great crossover fight where Joe palooka took on Big Ben Bolt for the universal heavyweight championship .

to avoid confusion for every one Joe Palooka and Big Ben Bolt were both strips about Boxers, Palooka being the better one
