Hmm… breaking out the fancy plates, huh? Panic mode! Just more of Gunther "pushing the big red button” at the sight of an “itty bitty caterpillar”… – A Gray train leaves the station at approximately 4:37 P.M. A Green and black one leaves Peru, for a stop at Moony U. at approximately 4:32. They are both headed to “Bergertown” at roughly the same speed and didn’t make any other stops along the way. If this is so…… what time is dinner?

Aye… a crafty lass, that one!!! She prepares a “showdown” in a “steel cage”… okay, more like an atmosphere of “awkard conversation” and what Gunther dreads… “getting to know thine enemy”…. – I’m supposing that Gunther would like to have gotten to find out things about Mr. Gray, but would have probably preferred to do it in an “au clandestine”-like way, all “furtive” and in a way that helps to fuel his mistrust of Mr. Gray, and through the “comforts” of a “wall of dislike”….without actually getting to know him … which is the more direct way….

Since it looks like this week is going to be focused on the relationships among Gunther, his mom, and Mr. Gray, I really hope that it ends with Gunther being able to tolerate his mom dating Mr. Gray. His attitude about that has been hard to tolerate.

I thought the purpose of the (improbable) Gunther-follows-Rosa-to-Peru story was to make him grow up and stop being a Mama’s boy. Since that obviously failed – his “concern” for Mama’s welfare is more nearly “jealousy” – just what was that big adventure all about, anyway? Was it just to bring him back in a sweatshirt and a stubble?

Get over it Gunther, she is an adult and you should love her enough to want her to be happy. After my parents divorced my dad went his way with his girlfriend (the cause) and my mom just settled into another part of her life. Then she met the best guy in the world and my stepdad came to be and we all wanted her to be happy and were happy for them.

Gunther… all your “growth” is simply making you impolite, snarky, unfocused, and a person who is really not particularly likable. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++In my opinion, you should a) Meet Mr. Gray, give him a chance, and presuming he is not horrid person, see how the family unit may progress, b) Start looking inside YOURSELF and get some actual goals, aspirations, and DO something to become the person you want (or figure out you want) to be with your college experience, c) Let the damn “peach fuzz” grow out and become a true beard and mustache to give yourself a more distinctive look, and d) have some FUN without being snarky to others.

It is not an oedipal complex and it is all Gunther’s mother fault. I’ve seen it happen in real life and it happens when a young mother suddenly finds herself alone, either by widowhood, divorce or abandonment, with a young son.

To make the son feel better she starts treating him as the “Man of the House” and make him feel as if he were the center of her life.If she has any relationship with another man, she keeps it hidden from him.

So the son grows and soon feel like his mother is HIS alone and nobody else’s. As if she were his wife. He became jealous of any other man that enters her life. Because then everything that she told hims become a lie since it turns out that he is not the center of her whole life but just one of them.

Gunther is in this phase. It wouldn’t surprise me that his mother’s relationship with Mr. Gray is years old and that she always kept it from him so he wouldn’t be upset, but now that he has allegedly grown up she feels safe in announcing it to him.

Unfortunately he is reacting badly to the notion that he is not the only man in his mother’s life. But, then as I said, that probably is entirely the fault of his mother.

It happened in my family with my grandmother when she became a widow when my father was 2 months old. He was the youngest of 5 siblings, 3 boys and 2 girls. 10 years later she asked her sons permission to remarry. My dad and my uncles just say to go ahead and do so. Despite the fact that my oldest uncle was the bread winner of the family and that for all purposes he was the de-facto family head, he never felt that my grandmother belonged to them and acknowledged that she needed a companion of her own.

On the other hand, I saw the widow of a friend of mine get trouble from her son just because she had a new boyfriend. In her son’s words, she was a slut that was sullying the memory of his deceased father.

I think that Gunther falls between those two categories. He feels betrayed because his mother dared to have a relationship with another man, but at the same time he knows that she has a life of her own. It is just that he is having a hard time to acknowledge that he has to share his mother’s affections.

I don’t feel like Evans is mistreating Tiffany. He is showing that she has a hard time acknowledging the fact that she is not as popular as she thought she was.

She is resentful that her father ordered to get a degree. And you are overlooking a very important fact, something that even Luann wondered about: She obeys her father without question. His orders are her commands.

That actually speaks really bad about Tiffany and her dreams. In order to succeed in a career as a public figure, she needs to be her own woman.

You see, she could have said yes daddy I am going to study but I want to be an actress so I am going to study drama. Yet here she is, dropping Psych and trying Bio. She is a lost puppy that is resenting the fact that she is not on her way to be famous. She is forgetting the fact that drop-dead-gorgeous women are ten cents the dozen in Hollywood. Unless she has a very special skill that makes her stand out of the crowd, her future will be that of a waitress or as a trophy wife.

Her dad knows that she has nothing special, so he wants his daughter to at least have something to help her earn a comfortable living.

Unfortunately I think she will end up marrying a famous man, so she can be famous by proxy.

I still think that Mr. Gray will be Gunther’s biological father…. who was long out of the picture. I think “Mrs.” Berger was just her maiden name and she did not get married to Mr. Gray and simply used her maiden name for Gunther as well. I think Mr. Gray has entered back in the picture and now Mrs. Berger will be letting Gunther know.

Gunther, quit being a jerk. Your mom has as much right to date as you do. He really needs to move out. Doesn’t he have some money saved up from his job in the library or the one he had in Peru? While I haven’t read the book (and don’t intend to) I’m thinking the name Mr. Gray might be a take-off on the main character in “50 Shades of Grey” (Mr. Grey). It says that Ma Berger wants a little more excitement in her life, though the image of Mr. Gray (as he is drawn) doesn’t seem to suggest that. But who knows.. as the word ‘gray’ suggests.

Gunther got away from his mother. But instead of using that separation to establish his independence, he obsessed on his mother’s love life and came home deliberately to try to disrupt it. That’s 100% Gunther’s doing, not his Mom’s. I can’t imagine that anyone finds him a likable character now.
