Sheesh, have we forgotten everything we learned in the sixties? “Aqua aura energy” isn’t energy that comes from your water aura; auras have colors, and aqua is the color of Bernice’s aura. It’s been a while since I did anything involving the details, but I think that means she’s a calm person with a spiritual nature.

I would assume that aqua energy refers to Aquarius from astrology. Either that or it is referring to the four elements theory and saying she has a personality associated with the water element.

I know a woman who uses hugs as a form of dominance. Wherever one runs into her she stands there with her arms wide open for the obligatory hug. I hated it.Then I started just taking a step back when she “assumed her position”. If she moved forward, I would step back again. It took a while but she finally stopped trying to bully me into hugging her on command.In today’s social climate, the hug is a form of handshake for many, but I truly believe it should only be used sparingly among long lost friends, relatives, and Hollyweird.

The last thing Bernice said to Dez was to ask if Moira was Dez’s guidance counselor. I think Bernice is so stunned by Dez, she’s speechless.-In a way, this is sad. University is supposed to be a time for kids to learn new things (not just in class), but not for one roommate to so completely dominate another. -I was disappointed when Bernice kept accepting whatever Dez’ s friends left for her, but I don’t see any way for Bernice to live with someone so very different from her. I had hoped all the characters would make interesting new friends and keep in touch with old friends; now I’m hoping that Bernice decides to apply to transfer to Yale…

Dez just bulldozes over anything or anyone in her way. Poor Bernice. What will it take before she finally stands up for herself. What if Dez needed her kidney, or $1000, or she wanted Bernice to become her lover? Would Bernice just give in to all of that?

So far Dez has forced or tried to force 4 of the 5 senses onto Bernice. Her posters, her incense, the hug, and her tea. Tomorrow it will be sound, she will have some weird music playing. It looks like Bernice was smart enough not to drink the Kool-Aid, I mean, tea.

Two Points:1) Dez is sitting cross-legged rather than in the Bound Lotus position. What a shirker! :)*2) Bern and G-man are on the same journey— how to set boundaries, how to define yourself, how to say “no”. Who will arrive first?

-What do you think the Rosa arc that lasted years was about?-You and I are going in totally different directions in our interpretations of what’s going on. To me, the Rosa and Gunther interaction is a male-female interaction where two people who are very different are attracted to each other, try to create a relationship, and realize that they are just too different.-Similarly, Quill’s relationships with Tiffany and Luann were about male-female relationships trying to form.-The college roommate experience (unless we are dealing with gay kids) is not about a relationship where two people are trying to achieve a potential long term, intimate relationship. It’s about new friendships with people who are typically unlike the kids from high school.-To mean, the vast gulf between Dez’s personality and Bernice’s just means that they will never be able to understand each other, share closeness or enjoy spending time together. And that’s a loss for all of us.-I met some very different kids at university, and yet we hung out together for a couple of years…

All the discussion on this site about ‘auras’ seems to be missing the point. Dez didn’t use that word. She said ‘energy pulse’. I don’t think it’s the same thing…

All is a matter of perspective. All is as it should be, if you are dominant Dez. All is a bit less as it should be if you are unassertive (but not submissive) Bernice. I still like Dez, but it is clear that if Bernice doesn’t stand up for herself, she will be a doormat in this dorm room….

Next she’ll be naming her crystals and putting them outside so they can “enjoy the sunshine”. lol

Sounds like a whole lot of woo-woo to me.

Aqua energy is not religion but New Age movement which people believe in the celestial alignment and energy influence people’s lives starting at birth. I am not sure exactly what aqua energy is but it is part of the celestial ideology.

I reiterate… I think Bern is either going to have a totally difficult time adjusting to Dez, or she will embrace it entirely and fall into its trap. I’m thinking the “former.” I just don’t see her taking this on.

As an aside, I may be “off the air” for a bit. I am in the process of relocating myself from the NY Metro area to Florida. Permanent move. It will depend on how good the Internet access is where I’m staying, temporarily. But I will be back.

Six incense sticks burning in a small dorm room seems a bit much! I don’t mind Dez as a character so much, as I mind the appearance of Bernice having incense, posters, unusual tea, 28 second long aligning hugs, and a roommate she has never met who is suddenly there when she comes home, all kind of forced on her. It doesn’t seem reasonable or realistic. Any person might be quite startled by that.

Hey, seriously, if this were a different strip, I would expect and hope for totally off the rails fun that departs from reality. This isn’t that kind of comic. Bernice asking for, and getting, some solid answers ASAP about all that’s gone on in Dez’s absence, would help a lot. Not another long, slow time line, either.

My roots are Southern, so no concern of mine. 3 of my grandparents are from Georgia, and one from Greensboro, NC. My mom was born in FL and raised in Southern Ga. I actually identify more with them than with the “Yankees.” :-)

On BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, her first college roommate was a soul-sucking demon from another dimension. Yes, literally.

A friend of mine was a music major in college, her first day at school she found out that her roommate (also a music major) had arrived ahead of her and already had her music out and ready to play. My friend started looking through the collection and all she could find was heavy metal music and she kept wondering “Where’s the Brahms, where’s the Beetoven, where’s the Mozart?”

It turned out that she and her roommate had opposite tastes in music, but fortunately for both of them their suitemates had the same problem so they switched rooms.
