Thank you, but it serves to remind me (which I frequently forget) there are people on the other end of the keyboard. Snarky is good, as is sarcasm but there needs to be a line and I for one need to be reminded of it on occasion. .It is never my intention to commit a verbal personal attack, but I’m sure I’ve crossed that line at times and it’s good to get my hand slapped for it.
My dissertation advisor (many years ago now) told me, "Don’t say ‘I disagree with so-and-so’, say, “I disagree with so-and-so’s argument that’…” It’s a small difference, but it’s a difference. I can disagree with so-and-so’s argument and still like and admire so-and-so.
“…But so many folk here think that they can attack an idea by denigrating the person and, further, that if someone attacks an idea they hold, they interpret it as an attack upon their person as they are so ego-involved with their ideas.”.It also keeps one from seeing the forest for the trees keep getting in the way..Personally I think things should be analyzed and argued on a point by point basis. As you well know I’m not a fan of the President, BUT I do agree with him on not labeling ISIS Islamic, and like the idea of subsidized community college for those willing to work for it, but many BECAUSE he’s a democrat will not give any concepts/ideas from his administration any credence, which I PERSONALLY find intellectually dishonest as much as I do those that think everything he does is wonderful..Though perhaps my post about dtroutma being a closet libertarian might have gone too far… :D
