SPOILER ALERT!!!!….….….en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_northWikipediaTrue north (geodetic north) is the direction along the earth’s surface towards the geographic North Pole. True geodetic north differs from magnetic north (the direction a compass points toward the magnetic north pole), and from grid north (the direction northwards along the grid lines of a map projection).

With Harper, the “True North and Free” is no longer true nor free, and I weep.

Depending on where you are, the angle between true north and magnetic north is different. In the U.S., the angle of declination varies from about 20 degrees west in Maine to about 21 degrees east in Washington.Since maps and navigation orient to the location of the true (geographic) North Pole using the Fake North (Magnetic North?) you are going to get Lost!.

Jo Clear (aka: Grasshopper) said, about 17 hours ago@neverenoughgoldYou are right…but I just never understand when I hear people say that their kids are always on their phone taking or text…or playing something…What happened to parents being parents…I guess the parents these days need a class in how to do it huh ?.Actually Jo, I am pretty sure they know “how to do it”! It is after they “did it” where things start to fall apart…

And, magnetic north moves around a little bit. Some maps will even have a section of the key where it describes the deviation. And of course, based on history as recorded in rocks, the magnetic pole has been where in the Southern Hemisphere on lengthy occasions in the past.

" Captain Jack Sparrow was first to use a true compass."~~~~~~~~~~~~~I don’ t know what he called it back then, but a glass of Cap’n Jack and Coke sure brings the spirit of the day to the forefront !
