I think this is not so much Marigold’s ego but her worldview. She genuinely views unicorns as being more attractive than other species and honestly believes her self to be beautiful and Florence’s appearance to be merely acceptable. From Marigold’s perspective, she is merely being honest, if not necessarily humble.

I’ve previously assumed that Marigold has a big ego on behalf of unicornkind rather than on behalf of herself. I see now that I might be wrong.
