I hate these Mario Andretti types. Not every foot of street needs to be contested.
The lights here have a traffic sensor. I found I could slow down and let them get to the light and wait for the change. I would still be rolling when the light turned green and a block ahead by the time they got going.

Unfortunately, my wife is looking over my shoulder and is shaking her head…
Because if you’re not first the guy ahead of you will sit there talking on his cell phone long after the light turns green.
Plus you have a better chance of making the next light without a slowpoke in your way.
