Emojis encapsulate performative statements, abbreviating the written words so that ideas can be “consumed” more quickly by today’s caffeine-addled masses. (I was going to say ‘youth’, but that seemed a little unfair.) People are already carrying around their understanding of definitions. Will they start to appear in Webster’s? English evolving at the hands of code writers. Why not?
