So apparently Hobbes has decided that New Orleans is preferable to Pittsburgh (see the May 20th strip). A big welcome to those of you who have come over from Comics.com and discovered our group.
Has anyone on here ever heard of the Heyerman brothers and their blog “Pants are overrated”? In it they have a strip where Calvin is 32 yrs old, is married to Suzie and they have a little girl named Bacon. (after philosipher Francis Bacon of course)
The sax is a wonderful instrument. All four types are quite popular in jazz. Everybody knows the insruments of choice in Hell are the accordian and BAGPIPES (you beat me to the punch Lewreader).
“Call it what you like!”Most people do.BTW, if Papa Ant in B.C. had ‘hit the roof’ instead of just the ceiling, he might be on his way to heaven, or Johnny might be!
OK Hobbes New Orleans dont want you to be too disappointed but bring your fishing pole because this heaven your talking about is right smack in the Rocky’s where two clear streams meet and its summer all the time.
I just had my account converted from comics.com, & found Calvin & Hobbes. Just curious…Does GoComics ever publish it in color? I know they said there was a glitch earlier today & some strips that are normally in color were showing up in black & white, so I thought I’d see what I could find out about this one.
^ The ones that were originally published in colour are usually in colour here. This one is so old, it’s before colour was invented! (According to Calvin’s Dad…)
Since when did playing saxophone for an “All-Girl Cabaret in New Orleans” become Calvin’s idea of heaven?!?!? Hobbes I understand because he loves smooches from the girls but Calvin?!? He hates them and thinks they have cooties!
Does anyone know if the cartoonist repeated some of the sunday strips? There are two in the archive that are the same. The ones during 95 are repeats of older sunday strips.
Hobbes can be so philosophical for a stuffed toy, but I usually agree with what he says. I’m looking forward to playing saxophone in an all girls cabaret.
Hi jpb6891Calvin and Hobbes ran from 1985 to 1995. Unfortunately, it looks like GoComics has the Sunday strips on the wrong dates, beginning in 1989. The daily strips seem to be OK.There were two periods during the 10-year run when Bill Watterson took a sabbatical. The syndicate published reruns during those periods. Everything beginning in 1996 is a rerun. Some strips have been rerun several times. It’s a very complicated history for such a short-lived comic strip. But Bill Watterson put so much into each strip, often with multiple punch lines, that it’s not surprising that he only drew it for 10 years.
Hi LeslieThe Sunday strips were originally published in color and the daily strips were in black and white. That’s how GoComics shows them. This is different from Peanuts, where the daily strips were originally in black and white, but GoComics shows the recent ones colorized.

Isn’t the definition of a gentleman: “A man who can play a saxophone but doesn’t?” Or is that an accordion?

Hobbes, I have to agree with Hobbes. But then I might prefer New Orleans to most cities.

Sax, accordion, violin, organ, piano… yep, altogether I’d say that would make a pretty hellish sound.
