The conservative talk-radio propaganda machine is twisting into strange contortions to salvage credit. One of the more bizarre twists is that Obama was forced to act to save his presidency. Ah the capacity of desperate, ignorant people to rationalize!

I am thankful that Obama’s goal was the same as mine. Now let’s wind down operations to try to salvage the country of Afghanistan.

    Canbag… clearly you don’t listen to talk-radio.

^ Nor has that occurred. Conservatives are always proud of a victory over evil, no matter whose political leadership it occurs under. You may need to determine whether you are just projecting yourself onto your opposition by caring more about political points than core moral principle.

The taking of Osama bin Laden is just another example of President Obama’s doing what Bush-Dick couldn’t.

I do not understand any regressives criticizing Obama after twice voting for Bush-Dick. A vote for Bush-Dick disqualifies one from any political criticism.

Before criticizing a president who actually accomplishes things and makes America better, first apologize for voting for a man who led this country into ruin.

0bama deserves big kudos for finally acting as an American President; If politics would have had a role in the timing of the action, it would have been delayed until just before the presidential elections; After the operation however = 100% political, 0bama is squeezing every political benefit that he can muster, witness the grandstanding that commenced within hours of the operation, not even allowing for proper debriefing of the actual combatants, hence the conflicting reports relating to the circumstances of the killing, but most importantly not allowing any time for the intelligence agencies to analyze and convert into actionable clean-up operations that the ‘treasure trove’ of data gathered at the compound should provide. The lost time will certainly give the potential targets an opportunity to go-deep … .

^ Look, I think Obama has every reasonable right to squeeze every element of political benefit he can muster out of this. The same would hold true for most presidents… especially those whose support has been fading quickly and is/was below 50%… especially when there are still so many lingering issues.

It’s just smart politics. And look, his support jumped like what, 10% overnight because of it? Milk it man, milk it. It just makes sense in this situation.

I’m pretty sure the “after action” debriefings went fine. It is our gloryhounds and media falling all over themselves because they are (wisely) being told to pound sand on any details. Covert operations succeed BECAUSE the information is covert, and NOT the business of the X-box heros pretending they all played key roles.

^^^ Pirate, I think I saw one yesterday from Matt that I “corrected” him on, lol, if you want to use that terminology. I did see that one. I haven’t seen anything like that from Howie.

But my “corrections” were more on minor stuff, like my second point in this thread, not what you had initially implied.

Maybe your perception of “…choking on an American victory” is different than mine and most of the conservatives that I know.

What I have found to be true is many libs who want to give Obama sole credit, which is not just unfair, but untrue and also levy continued demonization and ridicule of Bush and/or Cheney instead of pride of result and all those involved.

Now, if Matt and/or Howie were to want to give Bush sole credit and demean Obama and Obama’s active role in this event and belittle and such… well then, yes, your “Conservatives choking on an American victory” premise may have some legs. But the number of Americans, conservative and liberal, who celebrated the end of a great evil and the advent of some kind of justice 9/11 both individually and together directly refutes your desired assertion.

I think what is missed, and maybe mostly by those on the left within the comments I’ve read on this site, is that this is a victory for all of America… not solely Democrats or Republicans… or even a spitting in the face of either. My point is that pure-partisanship, in this instance, is often fruitless and speaks poorly on those who engage in it.

^^ And as such Michael , while humorous, I don’t think that’s an accurate description of Republicans nor conservatives. If there are some Reps where it is… well then I question the quality of their character and intellectual honesty and would venture to not support them in further elections.

Obama, if for anything, so get a large amount of respect and credit for more than just making the call. Heck, the ability to keep the action under wraps and not leak any details that weren’t supposed to be known is quality stuff.

Biden, however, can’t keep his lips shut and his brain controlled. But it’s nothing major so no biggie in my book. Unless someone wants to argue that leaking the fact that it was a Navy Seal team who did this mission was a vital piece of intel.

DJ, you must have missed ALL of ZIT’s posts claiming the US NAVY gets sole credit. Like the Navy operates in a vaccum, he knows better.

They shouldn’t be hard to find.

That is what I mean by “choking on it”.

Yeah Churchy… I do remember that controversy…it was also about the fact that Bush had promised NOT to use 9/11 footage in his political ads…and then when he did, it turned out to be staged. Also, the people objecting were, in fact, some of the 9/11 families, not ‘Bush’s poltical antagonists.’

I also remember how the same people criticizing Obama now, defended Bush to the hilt back then.

And in typcial right wing fashion; Rush Limbaugh and the Wall Street Journal both accused the 9/11 families who objected to those ads of being members of a left wing group that was motived entirely by a dislike of Bush. ( They weren’t )

The WSJ Op Ed in particular was one of the more masterful smears I’ve ever seen

Oh and Churchy? Ya sittin’ down? Good…. Hate to shock you but the image here isn’t REALLY of President Obama, it’s just a cartoon drawing of him.

It’s also not one of Obama’s political ads. Unlike Bush, he had nothing to do with this.

Much as some on the right might wish otherwise.
