As a boy our family went to the Catholic church every Sunday and I went to the Catholic school in the basement. The only thing I remember in elementary school was the Nuns constantly smacking my hand with a ruler. My parents finally put me in public school to prevent hand damage. Those penguins were rough………….

Yes, going to a Catholic school growing up was pretty tough with the nuns. They also loved to smack you with the yardstick in the behind for the littlest things - like going an extra page ahead in the workbook…. by the time I was in 3rd grade, there were lay teachers in the school. But some of them were just as tough…

I like this strip. Glad I found it.

Sounds like Catholics have it tough though.

My crime in kindergarten in a Catholic school was picking up my pencil and writing with my left hand. When I told my mother that they told me I couldn’t write with my left hand, she put me in public school the next year.

It wasn’t just Catholic schools that employed vicious teachers. My Dad went to public school, and one teacher laid his knuckles open with a ruler once. At least his parents weren’t prone to violence, so he didn’t get more when he got home…

Goodness, sounds like a lot of people have some pretty awful memories of school…

Love the last line, and Teena’s face as she says it.
