My son did something similar when we were eating at a fast food place – ketchup all over himself and the booth and a little on me since I was next to him. We found it hilarious.
I was wondering if those were packets of squid ink. I think it was Heinz that marketed a purple catsup, perhaps a green one as well. Did not stay on the market too long.

that appears to be soy sauce, not ketchup.
