Another suggestion since you don’t want to mask the problem in your firewall. Pick a number: 10, 25, 50, 100? On the back-end, if a user ID gets that many flags in, say, 60 seconds, their account is disabled. Should be easy – 1st flag starts a timer, when the timer fires, count the number of flags. If > x, set account disabled.
Calvin getting hit (initially from behind) by Hobbes with a water balloon. Now he knows what it feels like to get caught completely by surprise that way. Maybe next time he’ll think about that before he throws tomatoes and crab apples at people? Probably not!
