If you go to an Asian country, you should scrub ALL fruits and vegetables in bleach water then rinse two or three times before you eat them.
Unless you are in Taiwan or Japan, avoid strawberries (they’re the most easily contaminated).
Avoid the fresh-water fish in China. The fresh water here is some of the most polluted in the world. The factories dump millions of gallons of chemicals (including mercury) every day into the lakes and rivers.
Bannanas and mangoes are pretty much the safest thing there is because they have very thick skin and you have to peel them.
DO NOT eat meat from a street-vendor (yes, there are exceptions to this one, but it’s a good rule of thumb).
Travel guides are your friends. Lonely Planet is the best I’ve found; it’s very reliable and can give you the names and locations of safe places to eat.
Carry your own toilet paper (a packet of tissues will work just fine) and a packet of moist towlettes with you.
A bottle of hand-sanitizer might seem heavy but using it after you leave any area and before you eat can save you from most kinds of bacteria.
