Transcript:
Caulfield: It's the penultimate week of the school year! Mrs. Olsen: No, it's not. We still have a week after this. Caulfield: So much for convincing her I'm smart enough to coast through the next two weeks. Frazz: It's hard to impress someone with a word she doesn't know.

Having had moments where my vocabulary outstripped my teachers, I sympathize with Caulfield’s acumen if not his motives.

I love using four syllable words till I look them up and see what they mean.

I was in the process of catching up on strips prior to the date they began in the local paper when they disappeared. Anyone know if the achives exist anywhere?

Today’s comic doesn’t make sense because “penultimate” means “next to last.”

@rhhsch, that’s exactly why it makes sense. Caulfield knows what it means but Mrs. Olson doesn’t; she understands it, as many people do, to mean ‘last’.

I guess I was confused on that word, too. I thought it meant most important…….

My daughter discovered “antepenultimate” (next to next to last) at about Caulfield’s age. I’m forwarding this strip to her.
