No ads here in Texas, (thank the Lord) & I hope it costs them a fortune! Think of how much more $ our country would have if Daddy Bush had finished what his idiot son tried to by lying and making Cheney richer

This would be so funny but it is more sad since my daddy was a pow in Korea. As a kid, I used to think all dads just freaked out at times. As a teen, I was puzzled but had learned to stay away if daddy was tripping. As a grownup, I had to explain why my children could not spend summer months with my dad.Sigh… NO I did not vote for the bush

It’s great to see the transformed BD, from the completely self-absorbed, unaware, oblivious-to-emotions lunkhead to a person with sympathy, empathy, AND clinical skills; very similar to the track that successful persons in recovery from addictions take. Is it a coincidence that Ray’s addiction to adrenaline mirrors addiction to chemicals? I think not.

I’m moved to tears; I just remembered that “Permission to enter perimeter” was what Elias, standing out in the snow and cold, said to BD as BD was having a flashback. It was the first time BD lowered his defenses and allowed someone into the world of his PTSD. It was the beginning of BD’s healing; and Elias’s primary qualification? He had been through it all himself.

Daddy Bush’s brains mostly were in his head and he understood “quagmire” and could not have anticipated his idiot son who’s brains existed mostly between his legs. Besides the first Gulf war was about oil the second about lust.

Only two non-comics ads in southern California: One for the Rescue Me TV show, and one for auto insurance. Bachmann wouldn’t waste her campaign dollars for ads here now because California comes way late in the primary season.

Sad that so many think this is a joke, and others think Vets are all like this. And voting for Bush or Obama has not changed the war or our Country’s involvement.

As often with Trudeau, he mixes humor and pathos within 4 panels. Although the end is light-hearted, this made me think of all the suffering our vets go thru, and brought a tear to my eye, for their plight.

After 32 years got help with flashbacks that “helped” but didn’t totally get rid of them, the latter 10 years HAVE been “better”. My son now has the same “PTSD thing” going on, but at least the Navy was much quicker to offer him help before he retired last month on disability (numerous). It’s been interesting while he’s home a while before going back to college, we sorta’ “alternate”, operating under different “stressors” that affect us. While the “threat” of vets is overblown, the quickness to anger is very real, and folks don’t consider that it’s typically short-lived, and “controllable”. But just as nobody comes back from combat “normal”— “normal” people scare US a lot worse. Pre-conceived narrow-mindedness is the “rule of the land”, especially among those who are willing to send us, but unwilling to say “welcome home” (please, don’t say “thank you”) or pay the real cost of their “security”.

Professor Chaos,You can try Prickly City, Mallard Fillmore, or online strip Day by Day. All of them combined do not have the wit, the humanity, and creativity of Doonesbury. But as you can tell by my user ID, I am biased.

“Is there a comic strip for Republicans?”

No, because Republicans have too limited a sense of humor. Totally unaware of irony, they miss G.T.‘s self-mockery in a strip like today’s on B.D.

An example of a humorless Republican is the Speaker, Boehner. He was stunned by Obama’s suddenly taking over the deficit problem, after the Republicans have whined for months about the lack of presidential leadership.

Can you imagine a Republican making a joke about this turn of events? All they can do is parrot Obama’s mockery: “Eat your peas.”

Someone incapable of irony or self-awareness makes a poor comedian, but they can still say things that make us laugh. Here’s the latest from Sarah Palin:

“Let me tell you where real hope lies. It’s not the hopey-changey stuff we heard about in 2008. Real hope comes from realizing how God has blessed our exceptional nation, and then doing something about it.”

Mallard Fillmore comes to mind as a neo-con comic. Lil Abner qualified until Capp died of excessive bile. Ann Coulter always make me laugh. I thought she was doing a sharp satire until someone told me years ago she wasn’t supposed to be a comic. And, really, with Stewart and Colbert nailing them right and right it’s hard to think they’d need a comedian. (I think Dennis Miller is trying for the neo-con stand up since he made so much money failing at MNF long ago, but couldn’t find a coherent idea uttered on is radio show the couple nights I listened driving home from work.

Now that I’ve read everybody else’s comments, I think something is getting thru to my thick head. (I often can’t understand Doonesbury, and help from other people is greatly appreciated.):Hightower is Ray’s last name, so it’s not Ray speaking, it’s BD. Ray is the First Sergeant. I had it all backwards, so it was very confusing. BD is carrying the pancakes to Ray.Yes, that might work. Mix some reality in with the hellish backflash. Especially if Ray eats some! I lose my grip on reality when I’m very hungry, and a bite of food puts things back together again.
