So which part is Evie saying yes to? The “Marry Me” part or the “I’m a nomad and it will be hard” part? The suspense, the suspense!

Oh, please. Imagine the outcry if it was some old guy asking a young woman for her hand in marriage. He’d be considered a perv, right? But, because this is written by a woman, it’s perfectly acceptable. Double standards anyone?

Larry, Look out!! Watch your step bud, you’re on a scaffold!

@Larry, I think they are working on the roof… If you follow the books – Arnold is 15 years Evie’s junior (which is supposedly close to Val’s age – Evie was 19 when she had her.)

They’re standing on a roof, I believe. Not the safest place to be discussing life changing decisions. At least he’s being realistic with the way his life is. It’s misleading when someone gets married thinking that things will be one way, when they’re actually the opposite. Good storyline!

digital-dreamer – wake up and smell the coffee… As I recall, their age difference is in the 12-15 year range. We have a number of very happy people where I work that have that kind of age difference with their spouses, including me. And it goes both ways. People live longer. It’s not such a big deal any more.

Say yes! Say yes!

My prediction: not going anywhere. Evie’s too much of a romantic for a marriage where the relationship is a pleasant afterthought.
medbarin over 12 years ago
I think she should say no. He’s a nice guy, but she will not be high in his priorities as evidenced by his very practical proposal. I see what he would get out of the marriage – a companion when he’s lonely, someone to talk to etc. but I do not think Evie is much of a nomad.

Alright Evie, don’t keep us in suspense here. What’s it gonna be, Girl?
opentomeet over 12 years ago
Arnold looks much older than 50, which according to the earlier comments is what is inferred… Evie is in her early/mid 60s as Val must be in her mid 40s and her sister a few years younger. If he looks that old at 50, he isn’t going to be able to keep up with Evie’s natural ‘demands’ much longer!!

“I love having you as a companion”…………self centered.
No, “I love you.”

Unfortunate, but true and necessary in many cultures, like Canada and the States when they were being settled…
