Get Fuzzy by Darby Conley for April 24, 2012
Transcript:
Satchel: Hey-o! Rob: Just in time to hear Bucky tell me about luigi "ground" scivoloso. Satchel: Why was he called "ground"? Bucky: Because he was the master of the soccer dive. Satchel: Mm-hm. Mm-hm. Bucky: But that's not to say he had no air skills. His in-flight gyrations made Greg Louganis look like Gary Bauer at a pancake breakfast. Rob; Whoa. Old school reference. Bucky: I know my way around youtube.

As much as I hate to say it, Bucky might actually know whereof what he speaks this time around. I was just watching a youtube video of FC Barcelona acting/diving. One of the clips has the defender almost literally climbing the back of the ball handler and then rolling on the ground in “agony” hugging his ankle like he was kicked by the ball handler. No card given on that one. An earlier bit in the video had someone hit the dirt again hugging a shin like he had been kicked and the player carded quite clearly was not only behind the “actor” but never even touched him.

A Bucky could tell and sell…anything. The story is the thing. A throwback to America’s mythic and myth-making past…

Wow, I’d forgotten about Gary Bauer’s pancake moment…

I’m with you on this story line. I really don’t like it when Bucky goes on his rants and gets things all twisted.

Here’s a fixed version of Spamgaard’s link.

I don’t follow soccer or rugby, but I can appreciate the humor regardless.Sometimes the jokes are on idle, but among the amusing individual strips, there are some arcs that are funniest read together: I saved the “National Anthem” strips, for instance: hilarious.

MM-HM. MM-HM.

But David, Greg Louganis is an American Olympic diver, Gary Bauer is an American politician… and Luigi Scivoloso seems to be fictional! You really don’t have to know anything about soccer to understand the strip!

Wait – how is Bucky getting access to YouTube?
GypsyWoman about 12 years ago
I had to google Gary Bauer. Wow, never again. But Bucky is on a roll lately.

The impression I get is that Darby likes soccer, but he’s less than impressed with the diving…with good reason.
If Americans finding soccer “boring,” then why do so many watch golf, which rivals grass-growing or paint-drying for most boring thing to watch?

That’s a perfect description of most of the politicians I know about.

As an Italian soccer fan, I like this preach

Here I thought Bucky made a hockey reference:Father David William Bauer (Nov 2, 1924-Nov 9. 1988) Inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1989 as one of the builders of the sport..Bobby Bauer (Feb 16, 1915-Sep 16, 1964) inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1996. Older brother of Father David W Bauer. Played for the Bosten Bruins.
