Interesting. The last time Snoopy tried to publish his writing, he got a form rejection slip and had to be taken to Lucy to be treated for “rejection-slip shock.”

Oh, no, not again … Yes, That’s where I got the example: from Lytton’s infamous and poorly written novel. Too many writers get away with weak, passive and sloppy writing (especially in the past). Not to say I’m perfect. Far from it. But I’m surprised at what publishers/editors allow on the shelves. I’ll have to let the writers in my group know about this thread. I’ve forgotten how it went.

yeah, nowadays the fiction market is so over-saturated, you’d be lucky to get $50 for a story… most magazines that pay more than that don’t take unsolicited submissions anymore

According to the inflation calculator (http://www.westegg.com/inflation/), $50 of 1950’s money is about $450 in 2010 money, which sounds pretty good for a story published in a magazine.

For comparison, I wrote a two-part technical article for a mass-market computer magazine in the 90’s and was paid $400 for each part.

Snoopy got paid more than I did!

Of course if Snoopy were to branch into period fiction he couldn’t go wrong with: “He was a dark and stormy knight…”

The best stories start with dark and stormy nights. Just see the “Clue” movie.
