To each their own because I would never go back to Jamaica and I’ve been there several times. The last time I didn’t even get off the cruise ship on its stop there.
The discovery (or invention?) of the picturesque is presumably overstated and a bit misleading … but what theory isn’t? What I was reporting above is a pretty widely held approach. Take a look at the Wikipedia article for “Picturesque” for a convenient example. (They date its beginnings to the end of the 18th Century, but do position the heyday in the mid- 19th)
I like the Olympic Peninsula. Of course, I spent about the first half of m life in Pennsylvania, and have been in the semi-arid West for about thirty years now. Anything with trees that grow without having to be watered might do.
Is all a matter of your point of view about beauty. If you like icy mountains, cold temperatures and glaciars Switzerland may appeal to you as beautiful. But if you, like me, prefer green mountains surrounded by beautiful beaches and template temperatures now that’s another story. Enjoy your version while l enjoy mine.
