Patty, Charlie Brown and Snoopy sits on the curb. Charlie Brown holds up a book and says to Patty, "Listen to this definition in the dictionary.."

Patty looks over his shoulder as he reads, "'dog (dog) n 1. Domestic quadruped 2. Andiron. II 'Follows as a dog.'"

They thow back their heads and laugh: "OH, HO HO HO HO HO!! A domestic quadruped! WOW! And andiron! HA HA HA HA!" Snoopy frowns: "!"

Snoopy walks off, thinking, "I might as well go home and go to bed..this could turn out to be a very bad day..."

I find it hard to believe that any dictionary would define a dog a “domestic quadruped”, and nothing more specific, like being descended from wolves, and not even include the word “canine.”
