To people who lead their lives outside the dance studio - to men in suits and ties, to women carrying attache cases and wearing dark skirts and high heels - Edda's work was not a job, and her job was not work. They didn't quite know what it was. They thought it involved wearing leotards and tulle, if they thought about it at all. Sometimes, sitting on the floor in the corner of a dance studio during a rehearsal, Edda reflected on that, and wondered.
