Gran says, "It was a very big deal, this show… and it drew a lot of reporters and newsreel cameramen. Laurence Olivier, in uniform, gave a patriotic speech, Maurice Chevalier sang… so did Noel Coward. …I felt terribly small." Gran says, "When my first number was announced, I think I stumbled slightly as I walked onstage. There was a round of polite applause... then I remember what Bill told me." Gran says, " 'Just stand ther ea moment and let them get a load of you. ...Then start singing. ...They'll be in love.'" Gran says, "I did as he said, then I sang 'My Heart Belongs to Daddy,' with quite a lot of body language."
