Mrs. Baskerville; What was all that yelling? Secretary; Door-to-door megaphone salesman. Mrs. Baskerville; Hortensia? Secretary; I'm sorry. It was a potential adopter. Mrs. Baskerville; And you ran them off? Secretary; Yes. Mrs. Baskerville; Are you clear on what we do here. Secretary; Keeping the megaphone industry down?
Hortensia needs a few lessons in rescue reality – first, adopters are not the enemy, they are the desired escape for every animal currently confined to a crate or a run. Second, every adopter that is turned away, whether for good reasons or bad, is one more space that is not available for an incoming animal in need – if you don’t adopt them out you either become a hoarder or you close your doors to those in need.
