Katy: Sigh. Why does it have to be so grey and cold all the time? Adam: It's just that time of the year. Katy: You know we don't have to live here, right? We could live on a beach...somewhere sunny. Adam: Nah. Dealing with the elements is good for you. Builds character. Katy: Character shmaracter. Even birds know to fly south in the winter. Can I be a bird when I grow up? Adam: You'd better ask your mom first.

The Sun Belt states have millions of those—they call them “Snow Birds”. They shuttle back and forth with the seasons between their summer homes and their winter homes. Of course, those birds have to be able to afford two nests…which most people can’t.

We’ve lived in Phoenix for 50 years. I love it here. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and the cold HURTS. I grew up in Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, Kansas….I have had enough snow and cold to last me a lifetime. I can handle the heat!

I’ve lived within sight of Pike’s Peak for almost 50 years. I kinda like having 2 seasons a week in the winter…snow, then warm, then snow…

I’d rather deal with the cold and snow than the rain. You can shovel snow and pile it up. Flooding, not so much.

Moved to the west coast of Florida five years ago. Best thing I ever did. 3 seasons a year. We have a cure for the summer heat (which is not that hot) it’s’ called ac. Last years “northern weather” was a horror story. Glad I missed it.

I think Adam needs to get rid of that silly “grocery getter” he is driving and get a convertible; or at least, a sports sedan…

Or the days that start out around 0, and the high is 45-50…but with solar heating feels hotter…

I knew a fellow who moved to So. California to avoid winter. He lasted about 2 years, and then moved back north—not knowing what time of year it was just got to him, more than the cold or the heat.
