Katy: I just got an invite for dad's office holiday party. Clayton: I got one, too. But he doesn't have a real office, is he being silly or senile? Adam: Come here, Gumbo! I have your invite! Katy: Can't it be both? Clayton: Good call. Let's take a "wait-and-see" approach.
Of course, we all know that invite is something that you do (we call that a verb), and invitation is something that you get (we call that a noun). Moral of the story: never rely on comic strips or rock music for grammar education.
