She’s right. Unfortunately you have to stand there and take being bullied to keep a lovely minimum wage job. Been there, done that. Humiliating but unless management has your back, and they rarely do, you can be fired for answering back.
I work in a library where literally everything but using the copier and printer is FREE, yet people STILL find things to screech about. One woman yelled at me, left the building, then came back to yell at me some more. What a life she must lead if she feels the need to berate someone who makes less money than a McDonald’s employee.
Tabby is Zen. When I worked at Sharper Image the programmers sat next to the phone customer service people. A sentence I often heard was, “[Sir/Ma’am] if you continue to use that sort of language I’ll have to hang up.” It was in the “book.” The C/S people were generally overeducated and over qualified. I loved them.

When I answer customers after they yell and holler I use a very soft voice. Usually telling them to leave.
